I think i always mention it, but i love games with mechas, especially Japanese mechas over american mechas, I talk about those humanoid mechs not the tank on chicken legs. 90’s was certainly the golden age of the mechs, we had a lot of license more or less successful but I remember Front Mission and Mechwarriors on snes and pc, I also bought the pnp rpg Mekton Zeta with an atrocious French translation. I m also a sucker for this kind of game, I prepurchased Front Mission Evolved thinking it would be good and the in the end it was meh.
So when I saw Desura will have a mecha action game, I was really curious because from what I saw the game reminded me a lot Front Mission : Gun Hazard, Cybernator and Metal Warriors on Snes, allow me to digress : but if you never saw Metal Warriors, watch the jaw dropping intro. B.A.D. is not a bad game (ah ah), the story is simple, mars settlers decided to become the master of the solar system after they attacked earth they decided to continue their campaign and raid the earth. The story is pretty simple to say the least. What I ask to a mecha game is also simple : huge mechas, even huger mecha, a lot of weapons to use and a lot of explosion. Just like its super nes models, B.A.D. has it all and also a pretty similar game mechanics and even the graphical style of the snes, except for the in game cinematic made with a 3D poser and animated, those looks absolutely beautiful. I regret only two things : the lack of a better integration of the 360 controller and, I would be picky there, I would love to hear voice over during the game, it s not really easy to read the radio messages.
I would only advise this game to mechas era nostalgic and those who love good action shooters. This game really makes me want to see a Shogo MAD hd remake, a tactical Front Mission or a good Heavy Gears just like the 2 nd.
