There are a hell of a lot more of you here than I ever expected.
So here’s a crib sheet that I will reblog periodically for those who turn up and would like to know what the hell is going on...
TalesOfNecromancy Aesthetic - Ghosts, Witchcraft, Seances, Southern Gothic, Old West, and anything that reminds me of H.
H - My ghost. Born in Georgia, USA. Contracted TB; made a living gambling out west. Died in 1887. Has agreed under sufferance that I may keep this tumblr so long as I do not name names.
TB - Tuberculosis, also called consumption. A disease that can affect any organ, but frequently affects the lungs. Causes fevers, night sweats, weight loss, coughing and hemorrhaging of the lungs. (I may or may not have it due to H but would certainly like to have it because Reasons.)
Me - A witch and necromancer. Have seen a fair amount of supernatural/strange stuff. Have been talking to H for about ten years. Happy to give advice if I can, also will answer almost anything I’m asked.
Some of H’s Friends and Relatives - They’re named only by initial so it may be confusing but you’ll just have to deal with it I’m afraid. Friends most frequently mentioned are M, W and EF. Old flames frequently mentioned are K and M. Relatives mentioned are sister E, cousin S and various aunts and uncles.
Distant Shore - Term H once used to describe where the dead go and I now use to refer to the other side of Oblivion.
Oblivion - A sea of pain and forgetting that separates the Distant Shore from here.
Stormlands - The place on the Distant Shore where H is. The terrain and weather seem to be a bit like Colorado where H died.
The Storm - When I pulled H out of Oblivion and into the Storm House, there was a tempest overhead as vast as the sky. It was a curse or price of sorts; I had done something I shouldn’t have and the storm was going to make me pay. (Possibly by giving me TB, possibly by killing me, possibly by just generally fucking me up.) H and I did a ritual to stop the Storm - the tale of which is here.
Storm House - A wood cabin where H resides.
Tennyson - H’s horse, a dappled grey stallion. A birthday present of sorts; a horse I called out of the thunder for H.
Kits / Chittens - Another birthday present. I petitioned Bast to send one of her children to H to keep him company. Gin, a half Persian calico queen with a pointy face and a tail like a battle flag turned up. Turned out she was pregnant, so now there’s Isis, Nemesis, Rum Punch, and Horus Helios as well.
Mechanics - Short for ‘quantum mechanics’. The term H and I use to describe how things function in the Storm House. How the larder is stocked and shirts are clean without H doing anything about it, for example. Or how a version(?) of me appears in the house when H and I talk. Whilst most day-to-day chores are achieved via mechanics, H still needs to cook and fetch in logs and various other things. Whenever there is something we don’t understand we tend to bitch it’s the fault of Mechanics.
Seasons and way-points - It is possible for ghosts to travel from the Distant Shore. It is possible for ghosts to turn up in the world as people. (Maybe. At least it seemed to happen here). Seasons refer to the time period when this is possible and way-points are places where it is possible.
Bedlam - Originally the Priory of the Order of Our Lady of Bethlehem: better known as the oldest running asylum in the world. I once portrayed the avatar of Bedlam in a play and apparently Bedlam never got the memo it was only pretend. I have a tattoo with Bedlam’s crest and star. This has been successfully utilized to punch supernatural stuff like leechgeist in the face.
Leechgeist - What you get when something manages to crawl out of Oblivion. An echo of spite. A cannibal ghost that feasts on other spirits.
Bloodblade - A bone handled blade I covered in blood and sent to H so he could use it to deal with the Storm. As such is now a ‘spiritual’ and not a ‘physical’ blade. Seems to have some powers that I find annoyingly jedi/anime based and not what any self-respecting tool of magic ought to indulge in. Dislikes Leechgeist. Not to be confused with HellBitch which is a vicious but normal bowie knife H’s uncle gave him.
Walls / Wards - A perimeter fence of sorts. Something I set up to stop Leechgeist troubling H at the Stormhouse.
