"Drink Me"
A drabble about my character taking shots with yours.
“What’re we takin’ shots of? Shots ain’t exactly pleasant to get…oh! You mean let’s go drink some alcohol. Aha! Okey-dokey. But, let’s not drink too much.”
With that plus an easy smile, Aina sets up two jars. One filled up with his favorite drink–one third Jameson whiskey with two thirds ginger ale. The other filled up with hers–plum-flavored fungus tea. She takes her time pouring them both. She wants to mix his drink just right.
Satisfied, Aina sets the bottles aside and sits down across from him. She holds up her jar with a grin and a giggle. “Let’s clink our drinks together in celebration of us.”

“Oh, goodness! I got lots o’ stories from my childhood! Many good ones I can still remember like they happened jus’ this mornin’. Hmm…let’s see. Ooh! Here’s a very special one.
“When I’s six years old, my Papa tol’ me a story ‘bout a prince who was very spoiled. I mean, not liter’lly spoiled like what happens t’ food when it sits for too long. I mean, very ‘ntitled. An’ selfish. He was mean to a lady who came to his palace askin’ for a place to sleep one day durin’ a storm. Turned out th’ lady was a witch, an’ to teach the prince a lesson she changed ‘im into a frog on the c’ndition he could change back into a person through an act of true love.
“My Papa said that frog-prince could still be out there, lookin’ for somebody kind to help ‘im break the spell. ‘Course, I spent the next few days worryin’ ‘bout it. How long he gone on like that? What if that boy learned ‘is lesson but nobody could tell he needed help ‘cause he was still an itty-bitty frog? Frogs can’t speak words like people. They croak.
“So I go out lookin’ for ‘im. Every day for th’ next two weeks after I done my chores, I’d go outside lookin’ for frogs t’ kiss ‘til it’s time to come back home for supper. Kisses are an act of true love. I’d give ‘em more if I could. Well, it’s the one thing I can think of at the time that I can give to a frog. What with frogs bein’ so ind’pendent ‘bout everything else. They sure are fast-n-slippery, I’ll tell you what!
“Sure enough, all the frogs I found hopped away when I chased after ‘em. I couldn’ understand why. The frog-prince wouldn’ run away from somebody who wanted to help ‘im. Unless…what if he couldn’ understand that they were tryin’ to help ‘im? What if the witch made it so that he could only understand frog language? Or, he done gone so long not talkin’ to people that he forgot how? Oh, jus’ the thought of that was enough t’ make me wanna cry!
“So I try somethin’ different. I do what Pama said. The next frog I find, I don’ chase ‘im this time. Instead, I get down on the ground, I calm my mind…an’ I talk to ‘im. Jus’ like I would with any o’ my neighbors. ‘Cept in his language instead o’ mine. I’ll tell you what, animals like you better when you don’ chase ‘em around an’ jus’ ask ‘em nicely what you want from ‘em. They don’ hold grudges like people tend to do. An’ they got lots o’ interesting things to say if you jus’ listen. An’ of course, you don’ force ‘em to talk.
“I…I still ain’t found that frog-prince. All th’ frogs I’ve spoke to since then have d’nied bein’ people before bein’ frogs. An’ they’ve all said they’re quite happy bein’ frogs, anyway. But, I ain’t stopped lookin’.”

“Uh, can I get a cup of coffee or something?”
"This is an automail workshop, not a cafe..."
crierhavok replied to your post “Okay this year looks good so far, we’re actually going to see medical...”
Oh gods. I hope things go well for you this year friend, my sis went through medical school not too long ago and now she's in residency; I'm sure you'll do fine!!
@crierhavok Thank you so muuuuch I really appreciate this❤︎
“Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.”
Aina’s mouth forms an O-shape as her mind buffers itself to process this statement. Yes, light indeed travels faster than sound. Or at least, that’s what conventional wisdom dictates. But what does that have to do with people? People cannot be bright for they do not make their own light. At least, not without tools. Certain species of bugs and fish can make light, though…
Moreover, how does the words one speak affect how much light they emit?
She taps the tip of her nose. If she asked him to clarify what he meant, would he think her a fool? Her body briefly tightens at the possibility, but quickly relaxes.
Oh, well. She’s a fool, anyway.
“Aha. I’m sorry, friend. I’m afraid I don’ quite know what you mean by that,” she says at last. “I don’ reckon a person’s luminescence is affected by what they say, on account of folks don’t normally give off light in the first place. Though…it’d sure be neat if I met somebody who did. Anythin’s possible, I reckon. In fact, if folks could make light an’ change it accordin’ to their mood, they’d be so much easier to understand…”
Reporting for Duty!!
@crierhavok
BANG.
The door way swung open, nearly slamming against the opposing wall to permit the young Elric entry inside!
"Reporting for duty, Lieutenant Havoc, sir!" The boy did not have a prominent sort of voice meant for projecting immediate subservience to a cause, entirely too childish, too warm and kind to ever contain the connotation of strength sometimes needed in the military field, whether it was a genuine bout of emotion cradled in the heart or one birthed of unrelenting fear of tomorrow! The tone Al used was further marred by the odd echo to accompany his words, a side effect of his unfortunate state of being.
He stood rigidly, armored body held still, the red eyes peering from his helm unwaveringly focused on a spot in the distance chosen at random, not daring to flicker away for fear of recourse from his superior officer!
"I'm ready, sir!"
Odd. Alphonse wasn't part of the military ranks. Never had been, nor did he have much desire to start. The Elrics had enough on their plate as it was. With one of them tied up to the duties of the state, they could not afford for another to sashay in quite yet.
Nor did he have a previous discussion with the ole Lieutenant that would instigate such a passionate entry into his domain.
It was all a little baffling....
Then again, what about the Elrics was ever terribly clear? It was almost as though they strove to keep those in their lives forever on their toes, throwing wrenches on their day that would leave them scratching at their heads.
