Project Three: Critique Reflection Notes
Overall, I think the project communicated my concept very well. Most of this was because of the way the project controlled itself, and acted against what I predicted would happen (instead of the plant collapsing and dying from being cut, I was more strongly affected by the fact that it went against my morals and its sap made me nauseous.) I think the project continues to exemplify this paradoxical result even after critique, as I intend to let it live and finally give it water. After three days of watering now, it has begun to perk up. Eventually the plant will lose all of its altered leaves and go back to a “normal” state, and I think I will too.
It was brought up that perhaps my ideas could have been communicated in a clearer (?) sense if I had only used the cellophane to fill in the circles. I can understand how it would perhaps clear things up a bit, while also creating a beautiful optical sight. However, I purposely chose the candy wrappers, condom, and money because of the connotations that they have in our current culture, which is exactly what I am trying to comment on. Without the bar codes, advertising, faces, and words used on these materials, I don’t think I would have been able to make as overt a statement, or at least a spectacle.
My goal was to create something that served as not only an experiment to test boundaries, but also to construct a disgustingly beautiful specimen that made you at least feel downright weird for even looking at it.

Midterm Critique 3.15.12
I was not disappointed with my critique, I was disappointed that I was unable to make the medical photo shoot work for this project. With that, I received some good feedback on the new prints that I paired with the existing hospital images, and encouragement to continue with the new set up series I was planing. From the contact sheets, the idea of "dissection" did not come across, so that needs to be pushed in the future. It was suggested that I try not to use recognizable objects (like the license plates) and stick with the abstract (the piece of paper) instead, because it adds more intrigue. They suggested to stick with the stark white feeling and explore the objects more.
Critique 3.8.12
I am angry at myself for not being able to get something out of this shoot, but I am most certainly going to make another attempt, with the correct equipment this time.
