sometimes deltarune fans will be like "theres no platonic explanation for this" or "you cant possibly see x and y as just platonic" and then like the characters literally have a normal friendship dynamic . yall must have some very shallow friendships

#critter.og #i say this about like. kris and noelle and dess and asriel #kris and noelle especially are like. thats what happens when childhood friends drift apart and are bad at communicating #neither kris nor noelle take the proper steps to just tell each other that they like being around the other and see the other as a friend #and the shared trauma surrounding dess' disappearance doesnt help #thats why noelle isnt sure if she can say theyre friends. because kris is quiet and bad at communicating and often messes with her #instead of making it clear that they actually like her and like being around her #and similarly noelle is so used to seeing kris as a quiet distant prankster she keeps psyching herself out #when it comes to seeing their caring actions as being on purpose rather than her projecting an ideal onto them i.e. a concert just for me #thats a normal dynamic for estranged friends to have and its insane to say its an inherently nonplatonic dynamic #i think youre just seeing boxes where there arent (and shouldnt) be any #dess and asriel we dont have as much for but like still plenty of friends leave their clothes at each others houses #and even. gasp. wear each others clothes sometimes #and it can be platonic and nothing else #its not a canon ship. youre free to ship it! but it isnt canon #at least not yet lol #ftr im a shipper im a big krusie head even #i just also think some deltarune fans have some stinkin to do when it comes to nuanced platonic dynamics #deltarune

something about toby fox and queer narratives is that i think often, at least in my eyes, toby fox is just a guy who may or may not be queer himself who simply sees queerness as utterly Normal and something that doesnt really need to be written on the walls going "THIS IS QUEER BTW!". and sometimes this really works out because it means its obvious hes not really thinking of his gay couples as, like, anything that needs to be more clear than his straight couples, and normalization like that is good and what we want.

and sometimes it really doesnt work out because it means despite the fact that kris is obviously nonbinary and understanding that is important to understanding their narrative.... toby is likely never going to say, outright, that kris is nonbinary. he'll correct pronouns of characters, but he wont Say hey, this character is nonbinary, not a girl or boy.

and i think its good to, like, acknowledge that that kind of sucks and makes it hard for nonbinary fans of undertale and deltarune sometimes because toby isnt really working with us. and this is kind of a pitfall of writing where both in and out of character theres no usage of queer terminology in the effort to see queerness as something normal that doesnt need to be emphasized.

because where we are in society Right Now, is a time where it isnt enough for a character to just be constantly referred to with they/them. you do have to confirm something, or else you leave nonbinary fans of your work floundering against a bunch of transphobes who wont take anything less of outright confirmation as an answer. and that just sort of sucks!

#critter.og #deltarune #undertale #kris dreemurr #<- since thats mainly who this is about even though its also about frisk and chara and napstablook and mk etc etc #i think kris is nonbinary on purpose and that this is canon #i also think toby is just some guy who is not immune to a little criticism for not saying this outright #i have my critiques of writing where queerness isnt labeled or said outright in an attempt to normalize it #but i think it works best in cases likeee in stars and time #where the characters dont have the words for queerness and mainly in the area the game resides-#-transitioning is very normalized and so are same gender couples #and for some characters this really works out like isabeau who doesnt need trans terminology #and for others it really doesnt like mirabelle who could have really used having words for aromanticism and asexuality #but regardless of in-universe terminology.. the creator doesnt shy away from saying yes isabeau is trans and mirabelle is aroace #and that helps queer fans be able to say yes this is on purpose yes this is canon yes this is intended by the author #and its written down where you cant say its not true #vs how it is in the utdr fandom wherrree toby doesnt always have our back. often does not even #and that sucks shit a little bit. a lottle bit even

its so interesting to me how everyone is like man kris must HATE tenna in like the same exact way people were saying kris must hate ralsei like idk . i think kris is going through a lot and they just feel awkward. they dont even seem to hate asgore despite the way hes just so. um. asgore. idk if they necessarily LIKE tenna in chapter 3 but i sure doubt they fr hate him

im incapable of hating pinkie pie from mlpfim or even of taking her haters seriously because like here is a character whose whole thing is making others happy. the main things she does with her life are throwing birthday parties and serving desserts. shes so crucial to the town morale that in the episode where theyve all forgotten their destinies the entire town is upset and they all cheer her name when shes back to normal. she got so caught up celebrating her pets birthday multiple times she forgot her own birthday. she literally loves everyone and her entire town loves her back. and she looks like this.

she literally loves to draw and play toys. and people will be like ohhh shes so annoying ! whatever. she ate some cookies today and had some lemonade
