a better pineapple
pineapple pt 1
First stab at a pineapple motif.
The longer I look at it (and at other "pineapple" patterns) the more I think that 'Pineapple' was just a trendy re-branding of 'Thistle'. Because there was that weird patch of history where pineapples were literally things you could rent to take to parties.
Pattern is out of one of my aunt's old crochet mags. I've got a proper scan of it somewhere. Aunt Lydia's #10, 1.5mm hook. About a day since I started, including multiple frogs of first four rounds to adjust for the thread/hook I used, and then a frog of most of the last row bcs I hate picots.
The natural shape makes me want to fold the corners in and up and make it a dice pouch. But that'd mean undoing all those picots I worked so hard on and then re-doing like 12 of them. No gusta.
Even though the summer is over, these owls hope they can continue bringing you some brightness and cheer! I made the pineapple owl more recently than the strawberry owl so its beak is made of felt instead of embroidery thread. Which beak style do you prefer?

This pineapple owl wants to bring some sunshine into your life this week! I based the stitch off of AllAboutAmi’s pineapple purse pattern and I actually started crocheting from the bottom of the owl to the top (I start at the top for my strawberry and watermelon owls). For the leaves, I crocheted each one separately and then crocheted the leaves together before sewing them on to the top of the owl. I hope you like this design!
There’s a new owl design coming soon! You might remember from my watermelon owl post that I was interested in making a pineapple owl. I ended up using a modified version of the pineapple stitch from AllAboutAmi’s pineapple purse pattern. Please check back next week for the completed design!
Love this! 🍍❤
