11. How does your character feel about the consumption of Pokémon (e.g. Smoke-Poke Tail)?
To the surprise of literally nobody, Adam doesn't have an issue with it! In fact it is something be partakes in frequently.
Dishes such as cheese made with the venom of a female Arbok and Slowpoke tails in Lumiose city's restaurants make me think that Kalosian cuisine as a whole heavily features food derived from Pokemon or their by-products.
The same is also true of Galar, where Adam was born and spent the first six years of his life. In both regions this would be doubly true for the rich and affluent capable of affording the best of the best - the exact sort of lifestyle within which Adam was raised.
That being said, Adam doesn't tolerate poaching and trafficking to supply it. He'll gladly eat a slowpoke tail but if he finds out you cut it off some Pokemon by force like a Rocket then you'd better run.
And, finally, he's not actually super adventurous for the stranger parts of the anatomy. You won't catch him eating brains or anything like that!
(Starter for @croesow!)
They swayed back and forth with the movements of the ocean as the waves rocked the ferry. Most people would have gotten seasick, but they had a surprisingly strong stomach when it came to things like this. Looking out the window, they lamented on how they’d gotten themselves into this situation.
Shortly after though, they shook their head. Best not to look back on painful thoughts. Leon said they’d come here to have a chance to breathe and recover from their trauma, not to remain stuck on it.
It was honestly kind of hard to be excited about this, though. They were going to a whole new place where they didn’t know anybody - even though Leon had spoken highly of everyone there, they were still terrified. What if people made fun of how they looked, or how they never spoke? From the scars to the oddly demonic eyes, there was a lot to pick on them for. Leon had said this would be good for them, but... they didn’t know if it would be.
As the ferry came to a stop at their destination, they were abruptly brought out of their thought by the captain’s voice over the loudspeaker telling them to gather their things and exit the boat. Well, there was definitely no escaping it now.
Sending out Deedee to give them some form of comfort, they picked up the Alcremie along with their backpack of belongings and walked out onto the dock. Clutching Deedee close to their chest, they looked around. Leon had said they’d be meeting the champion here, but... they’d forgotten what he said they looked like. Where were they?
"What's the best part of living in Adreffe?" (Tobias)
QnA with Vesper! | OPEN
"Ohh, what a great question! Thank you, Tobias!" They seem to pause for a moment, thinking. "Well, honestly there's so much to like about Adreffe that it's really hard to pick just one part of it that I like the most. It's such a relaxed atmosphere, so supportive and nurturing to those who need it. I also love that it offers a chance at redemption to just about anyone, regardless of their background. Of course, it's a risky move, but without this policy in place we wouldn't have such amazing people like Argo around - and he's just one great example! The risk is well worth it in my book - everyone deserves a chance to better themselves, regardless of whether or not the law outside Adreffe seems to think they do. Of course then there's the therapy programs and slow transitions they offer for students from troubled backgrounds, as well as how amazing all the gym leaders and elites are, not even mentioning how amazing Sion himself is - but ahh, I'm rambling. Needless to say, I could sing my praises for Adreffe near endlessly. I don't think I'd ever want to live anywhere else."
@croesow - plotted starter.
She was expecting to have to shoo those other students away - I mean, she’d been having to do it for weeks now. They’d never seemed satisfied even after they terrorized Glory again and again, never seemed to learn their lesson every time Sion or another teacher had to tell them off. She’d heard that this was their final warning, that they’d been told if they bothered Glory one more time they’d be expelled from Adreffe immediately. It brought her some relief, knowing that they’d likely finally leave her and Glory alone.
She never could have expected what had come next, though. They approached them again - it seemed they’d still not learned their lesson, of course. Vivian was ready to try and text Argo or Felix for help, maybe even Sion - but then she saw one of them try to knock the egg out of Glory’s arms. The egg Sion had given them, one of the reasons these kids hated them - and before she knew it her fist had collided with their jaw.
And now... she was here in the infirmary.
Her head felt as if it was full of cotton and fog, the sharp pain in her chest and arms leaving her unable to even think clearly. She knew Glory had been urged to go home and rest, recover from all this - and she preferred it that way. She didn’t want them to have to feel like they needed to comfort her or feel horrible for the fact she’d gotten hurt protecting them. It was fine. She didn’t care - all that mattered to her was that they were okay.
But still... the consequences of everything swirled through her mind. Would she also be expelled for throwing the first punch? Would she be punished for stooping to their level? She wasn’t sure, and to tell the truth... it scared her a bit. She didn’t regret protecting her friend, of course not - but there was also the inevitable backlash for the violence. To tell the truth, she knew she shouldn’t have done it - it was an instinctual reaction, and she knows she should have just brought it to the attention of one of the teachers. But it was all she could think to do in that moment, and by the time she’d realized it was far too late.
...She just hoped Glory would be okay, and people weren’t too mad at her.
Eira stared up at him, swaying back and forth on her heels as she waits for him to look her way. This was her first time in Johto - so new and exciting! - and she didn't know if it would be rude to approach a stranger so suddenly.
But... She was so curious....
❝ Excuse me! Is it true that you're a Champion? ❞
Gold is well used to fans approaching him by now - even foreigners from other regions. Its weird to him, to have recognition outside of his little corner of the world. As much as he’d been in matches in other regions he didn’t like to stray far from home if he had a choice in the matter, but he supposes if those matches are large enough that people should know of him.
And while he didn’t always appreciate being approached (especially in Kanto), he had a soft spot for children. They reminded him of him, only a decade ago. He couldn’t say no.
“Hello there.” He smiles softly, nodding. He speaks in thickly accented Galarian; fluent but clearly not a primary language in the sense it sees daily use. “-- I am, absolutely. Call me Gold. A pleasure to meet you, Miss...?”
He holds out a hand, too, to shake.
❝ What's with the Incineroar? ❞
Blunt as always, Steffan gets right to the heart of his question. He'd heard that there was a visitor in the region, but he hadn't learned that said visitor was James, Leon's James, until earlier that morning.
Though not a fan of Galar's overly televised battle culture, even he had not been left completely immune to the ex-Champion's charm. Naturally, any who managed to beat him became quite a rather large source of interest.
❝ I saw you had one in one of your matches, but it seems an odd choice for a Fairy Trainer. Isn't it difficult, adjusting to the needs of a completely different type? ❞
It takes James a moment to realise Steffan’s asked him a question. He smiles then.
“Oh! I grew up in Spikemuth.” He thumbs vaguely in the direction of his homeland, across the ocean. “Town’s famous for our Dark Type gym leader, and you can find wild Galarian Zigzagoon everywhere you look. We’ve also got a Purrloin and Liepard population outside the gates. My first Pokemon was actually a Zig, Ozzy.”
He pats his belt.
“Dark Types have always been a secondary passion of mine because of that, and frankly they’re not too dissimilar from Fairy Types in a way. You need a sharp mind, and you need their respect.” He hums. “-- I found Kane in a shelter in Atoma. Part of a trafficking ring from Alola that’d been shut down. He grew attached and came home with me; took two months of work and he’s still people adverse now. Well, if they want to touch him anyway. He loves crowds. Fits right in back home with the showmanship.”
“The thing I love about Fairy Type specialists as a culture is that we’re all so diverse. You have someone like me, who’s dashed through pretty hard with my Spikemuth influences, Molly from Adreffe who could be a wonderful walking stereotype and then--”
A pause.
“Whatever Wyatt from over in Atoma is going for!”
He supposes if anyone leans into the trickster aesthetic, it’d be Wyatt. Guy looks like he could break you in two.
