the bubbly sounds of laughter continue to pop in the clean air as six pushes her fingers through her equally windswept hair to straighten it. heart still racing in her chest from the sheer excitement, she softly pushes on gold, a playful gesture as she tosses him a smirk before turning back to blazer. ❝ i guess you could say i agree with the sky then. ❞ a hand reaches to blazer's snout and gives it a soft rub in admiration of his showcased skill. the charizard pushes his head into her chest and lets a low rumble fester within his belly, a gentle sound of affection well known to the pair. after a moment, they break their embrace and look back at their friends. ❝ dunno about opal, but i think blazer's up to fly around and hang out while we do our thing. ❞
blazer is quick to perk up, his tail swishing slightly in excitement, like a happy growlithe waiting for play time. the actions get a giggle out of six, and she pats his back softly, indicating he's free to go. the fire pokemon huffs, releasing a little smoke from his nostrils before walking forward and taking off, giving an expectant look towards opal as he takes to the skies. the champion adjusts her kimono as it blusters in the wind created by blazer's beating wings, still not used to the feeling on her body. slowly, her gaze drifts to gold, a content smile on her features before she turns towards the bell tower before her, looming over the pair.
for a moment, her expression falters. the excitement that once filled her veins is suddenly nowhere to be found as her heart faces reality. facing this tower meant facing history, and while it wasn't her own history, it was terrifying. the rareitan had made a decision that would be the start of something bigger for her, and that was something she hadn't done in years. memories of making her decision to come back to the region begin to resurface in her mind. the fear, the anxiety and uncertainty. it had been a good choice in the end and things had turned out well, but what if this time it didn't ? heavy breaths leave slightly parted lips as she feels the fear creep in, but there's a glimmer in the corner of her eye, the johtonian champion's hair accessories catching the light as he moves. she turns slightly towards him, taking him in, and her breath begins to slow, returning to a calm state. she gives a sort of nervous grin. ❝ ready to change my perspective ? ❞ at least she wasn't doing this alone.
Gold lingers where she leaves him, the gentle push at his chest doing little more than shift his weight, though the smirk she tosses his way earns a crooked grin in return. His gaze follows her briefly, then flicks upward as Blazer takes to the sky, a quiet, appreciative hum slipping from him at the display. The wind tugs at his jacket and hair, but he barely seems to notice, attention settling instead on the shift in her.
He sees it - the moment the lightness fades, the way her shoulders hold just a fraction tighter, the pause that stretches a little too long. His expression softens, grin easing into something steadier, more grounded. He doesn’t rush her and doesn’t interrupt the silence that wraps around the tower and everything it represents. Instead, he steps forward, closing just enough distance to be there without crowding her.
Her words pull a quiet breath of amusement from him, though it’s gentler than before, edged with reassurance rather than mischief. One hand lifts, rubbing the back of his neck before dropping again, posture loose but presence firm beside her.
"Change it? Far from it. Consider this simply education, if nothing else."
His eyes flick up toward the towering structure, then back to her, something confident settling in his stance.
"You have already done the hard part. Arriving here? That is easy. And if it gets rough, I am right here. You are not facing this alone."
A small tilt of his head follows, that familiar spark returning just enough to lighten the weight in the air.
"So yes, I am more than ready. The true question is, are you ready to prove to yourself that you have got this?"
the dance through the skies brings six nearly to tears in the best way possible. up here in the clouds, the world was so free, and with blazer keeping her up high, she reigned as it's queen. but there was competition to the throne, and it brings the champion's lips to curl further, and excited and exhilarated gritting of teeth as she and blazer push further. push harder. push faster and faster still. and yet, they can't shake the pair beside them.
the rareitan steals a sideways glance towards her opponent, letting out a short chuckle as they creep just barely ahead while gold slings playful retorts. ❝ you may be from around here johto boy, but you've never kissed the stars like i have ! ❞ blazer roars in response to his trainer, pulling himself into a steep climb and beating his mighty wings to disappear from the sight below the clouds. perhaps to gold, it may have seemed like opal and him and the advantage, as climbing towards the heavens would slow six down, but it seemed she'd planned for this.
blazer's wings cease their pounding, folding in close to his body as he hangs in the air for a moment before speeding through with a steep nose dive, right past their foes. the speed gained from diving follows through with a low glide, the pair using the momentum to drive them forward. but six was no fool, she could see that gold and opal were closing the gap once more, and blazer begins pushing himself harder, faster, as fast as his wings can carry him. the bell tower was getting closer, it's beautiful gleam in the light the finish line to a glorious race.
the gap is getting smaller, and as they begin to glide around the bell tower towards it's entrance, the talons of the pokemon that had brought them here click against the rocky ground in unison, signifying the dreaded result of a tie. six finds herself panting, looking over at gold with a shocked expression. her face hangs like that for a moment, before a smile creeps its way onto her lips once again, and she begins to laugh heartily. ❝ there's no way… there's just no way ! ❞ it takes her a moment to contain her laughter as she gazes at the johtonian champion. ❝ i guess you gave me a run for my money ! ❞ a smug snicker leaves her lips as she playfully pouts out a little claim. ❝ … buuuut we still won. ❞
High above the gleaming spires of the Bell Tower, Gold rides the currents with Opal’s silver wings cutting clean arcs through the sky. The air thins, sharp and sweet, and he feels the pull of the heavens in his lungs. Six and Blazer blaze ahead in a daring climb, vanishing beyond the clouds in a show of dominance that makes his grin stretch wider. A throne in the sky? Gold has never bowed easily.
He leans low against Opal’s neck, laughter snatched by the wind. "You believe this altitude scares me? I’ve chased legends higher than this!" His eyes flash toward Six as Blazer folds and drops like a comet, slicing past in a fierce dive. For a heartbeat, Gold admires the boldness - then his competitive fire roars hotter.
Opal answers without needing words. Wings tilt, body streamlines, and Gold feels the surge as they angle into their own calculated descent, not reckless but razor-precise. He trusts her instincts as much as his own. The distance narrows again, inch by inch, heartbeat by heartbeat. The tower’s golden crest burns brighter ahead, a beacon calling champions home.
Gold bares his teeth in exhilaration. "Come on Opal - let us show them what a real Johto sky looks like!"
They sweep around the tower’s curve in a tight glide, talons striking stone at the same instant as their rivals. The echo rings out - two beats as one.
Silence lingers for half a breath before Gold straightens, chest rising and falling hard, eyes locked with Six’s stunned stare. Then his laughter breaks free, bright and unrestrained.
"A tie? Hmph." He shakes his head, brushing wind-tossed hair from his face. Pride gleams there, fierce and playful. "Guess that means you couldn’t shake us after all."
Her smug claim draws a spark back into his gaze. Gold slides from Opal's back, scratching her chin with a murmur of thanks as he steps forward, undeterred, confidence radiating as steady as the tower behind him.
"Won? I am more than certain we hit together." His grin sharpens, daring and warm all at once. "It seemsas though the sky could not decide which champion it liked better."
she's quick to give a playful scoff at his declaration of not falling behind, softly elbowing him in the side before rushing ahead and out the door towards the pokemon in the garden once again. placing two fingers in her mouth, she lets out a whistle that alerts blazer to her presence, waking him from his basking with gold's charmeleon. he stretches out his wings before getting to his feet and seeing the fire in six's eyes, which in turn wakes him up from his lazy slumber to walk towards her quickly. ❝ ready for a race, big guy ? ❞ the charizard perks up quickly and begins to wag his flaming tail before spinning so she can hop onto his back carefully. the kimono would certainly make this a little harder, but it was nothing she couldn't handle.
leaning back in the saddle, six gazes over to her fellow champion from atop her perch and gives a slick smile. just as she leans and moves with blazer's movements, she's quick to lean back into her competitive habits and cocky nature when it comes to her abilities, letting the worry of the previous moment melt away from her body as if it were nothing at all. nothing was different at all, and yet, everything was, and maybe that was okay. but one thing was for certain. ❝ there's no chance you beat us there gold, try to keep up, will ya ? ❞
blazer and six almost share a laugh in that moment, feeling the ground disappear beneath them as they soared into mighty skies above, feeling every movement and wingbeat as they began to race towards the bell tower. there was no way he'd get there first, not if she could help it.
Gold snorts at the scoff, stride lengthening rather than slowing as the door swings wide. Sunlight catches against the familiar blaze of scales in the garden, and a sharp whistle cuts through the lazy heat. The Pidgeot swoops from her place in the tree, landing as she straightens with purpose. The challenge in the air is unmistakable.
A hand comes up in a quick, practiced motion, fingers snapping once. The flying-type answers immediately, muscles coiling with intent. Gold vaults up in one smooth movement, boots finding purchase as if the motion had been rehearsed a thousand times.
A grin flashes, feral and bright, eyes tracking the ascent of Blazer with open amusement rather than concern. The ground already feels optional.
"Bold words for someone already cheating with altitude."
Wings beat hard, lifting skyward in a rush of feathers and wind. The Bell Tower looms in the distance, far but inviting, and Gold leans forward without hesitation, laughter caught in the chest as the race truly begins.
"I would not worry about me falling behind-" comes the shout, carried on the updraft, sharp with challenge and promise. "That is your place!"
Opal surges higher, form streaming in a brilliant arc as the climb sharpens. Air tears past, cool against Gold's skin, and the world below shrinks into a patchwork of green and stone. Every wingbeat is familiar, synced down to instinct rather than command, a partnership honed through countless reckless decisions and victories hard-won.
Gold steals a glance sideways, tracking the other silhouette cutting cleanly through the sky. There’s admiration there, buried beneath the competition, but it only sharpens the edge of the moment. The Tower grows clearer with every second, metal glinting like a dare against the horizon.
"Try not to trip over that confidence when we pass."
A laugh breaks free, swallowed quickly by the wind as the Pidgeot banks just enough to shave distance.. The race is on in earnest now - no past worries, no unspoken tension, only speed, sky, and the familiar thrill of chasing something just out of reach. Gold isn't sure he's seen a Charizard as fast as Blazer is, and Opal loves the challenge as much as he does.

the air feels lighter when he brushes off her blunder with gentle honesty, and she feels the tenseness in her shoulders start to dissipate slightly before he softly gazes around her, as if to give her space. in the light that filters through the window, he seems to have this radiant glow about him, and six feels her heart skip a beat, as if she was looking at something she shouldn't. and yet, at the same time, she found herself unable to look away.
and then his lips plant on hers, and while the moment is quick, it feels full of meaning and warmth. of understanding and mutual respect. of closeness. when he turns away after breaking the kiss, she feels the flush in her face dissipate a little, realizing the moment is gone. though her mind still races a mile a minute, thinking of what he could mean by these words, these actions. you should not regret anything. could it be that… ? no. it couldn't be.
she ponders is next question for a moment, trying to forget what just happened. ( though it will be a long time before she ever forgets the taste of his soft lips against hers. ) she could ride on blazer, that would be easy, and it might even be fun, a contest in the skies. though, the prospect of riding with him also made her excited. was that because of the moment they just shared ? she shakes her head a little bit, pushing the thought from her mind. be a little more rational six, you're friends. ❝ i can take blazer. after all, wouldn't it be fun to race there alongside each other ? ❞ there's a smirk to her features as she finally walks to stand beside him, pushing those previous moments and feelings away for just a moment to be herself again. ❝ it's been a long time since blazer's gotten the opportunity. ❞
Gold lets the quiet settle again after her choice, a calm that carries a faint echo of what passes between them. He watches the way she straightens, the familiar spark returning to her eyes as she leans back into herself. The smirk suits her; it always does. Something gentle and approving softens his expression in return.
There is a brief glance toward the window, toward open sky and the promise of motion, before his attention finds her again. Not evasive - simply giving her room, honouring the space she claims so deliberately. The corner of his mouth lifts, warm and knowing.
"By all means." He agrees, amusement threading through his voice. "I would not mind seeing just how fast you push him."
He steps closer, not crowding, only enough that the shared anticipation hums between them. His presence feels steady, encouraging rather than challenging.
"I’ll keep pace." Gold adds, eyes bright with something playful beneath the composure. "Consider it a friendly race. No pressure."
A beat.
"But try not to fall too far behind." He adds, tone light, though the gleam in his eyes suggests he welcomes the challenge. "I would hate to miss the view."
With that, he turns toward the open air, toward motion and speed and the thrill waiting beyond the threshold.

the moment shared here is special, quiet, comforting. it's as if six is right where she needs to be in this very moment, being guided by a golden angel come to help her not only face her woes, but understand how to tackle them on her own. it was a wonderful feeling, one that felt as though it would last forever. and so after a moment longer of holding each other's hand, they begin to head over to where gold would lead them, getting out a special kimono just for six to wear. he seems to present it to her proudly, and that excites her.
together, the pair get ready with gold being the one most often to break the silence. six is nervous, helped into the kimono by gold who already looks as if he's done this a million and one times before. ( and truth be told, perhaps he had. ) the moment is more intimate and close than six would've expected, and her heart races the entire time before the finishing touches on her eye makeup are done carefully by gold, and without thinking she unexpectedly ends up planting her lips on his and rushing out of the room.
it takes way too long for her to come down from her mind racing about everything, from how soft his lips were to why on arceus' green earth she ever even thought she should do that. outside the room, she stands sort of in a corner, as if the intersection of walls would cradle and calm her. what was this feeling ? this strange connection that she herself couldn't understand ? whatever it was, she just hoped that gold could move past it and forget it happened, lest she die from embarrassment before they even got to the tower. when gold does eventually find her, she can't look him in the eye, instead flushing bright pink once more and turning just a bit away from him. ❝ i… i promise i won't do that again. ❞
Gold lingers near her without closing the distance, presence offered rather than imposed. The air carries a softness that mirrors him, something patient and unafraid. Whatever stirs between them finds no sharp edge here; it rests, unpressured, allowed to breathe. He notices the way she turns, the color rising to her cheeks, the tension held tight as if the walls themselves serve as shelter. Understanding comes easily. It always does.
He shifts just enough to be seen without demanding her gaze, golden light catching at his hair, at the quiet curve of his expression. There is no trace of shock, no hint of regret—only warmth, steady and unbroken, as though nothing fragile has cracked.
“No apology needed.” He replies curtly. A pause follows, deliberate. Gold gives it room, the same way he gives her room, letting the moment settle instead of chasing it away. His hands remain relaxed at his sides, a silent promise of safety. He angles his body slightly, not blocking her corner, not pulling her out of it either. Choice remains hers. Always. His gaze lifts only briefly, respectful, then drifts away again, as if eye contact itself might feel like too much weight.
And then he leans in and kisses her. Its quick and soft, but firm and with meaning. He breaks it and steps back.
"And you should not regret anything."
He turns then, and the moment breaks.
"Will you be flying on Blazer or would you like me to give you a ride on Opal?"
Otohime very much does not get any kinder when she Mega Evolves. Actually she probably doubles down on her worst traits.
She really enjoys the experience though (if for no other reason than she temporarily regains some of the traits she had as a Dragonair).
Going fucking insane over how the artist of the Festival of Champions Doujin draws Dragonite tbh.
