decided to write down my headcanons for the naming conventions of the twins species
elbaites and schorls have almost the same naming conventions, only differences are that schorls don’t have any special rules regarding royalty (as they don’t have a royal family in the first place lol) and are a bit more lax in these conventions compared to the elbaites
every brood of tourmalites has a name that encapsulates all members of that brood, referred to as a “cluster name”
each member of a brood has a name taken from part of their cluster name, referred to as a “singular name” (examples images of cluster vs singular names for twins and triplets below)
when addressing a brood as a whole, the cluster name is used. if, on a rare occasion, it’s necessary to address an individual in a brood, the singular name is used.
for example, here’s the twins talking to my ocs croff and anad together:
vs. separately:
to easily make singular names, cluster names tend to have at least the same number of syllables as there are members in the brood. it’s not forbidden to have less per se, but it’ll make things more complicated lol
it’s in bad taste to unnecessarily address a brood member individually with their singular name. its seen as othering the individual addressed and implying that they’re different from the rest of the brood.
an exception to this is when an individual from a royal brood inherits the throne, then all individuals of the brood are almost exclusively addressed by their singular names (example with ozzal and his brother, using what may or may not be images from a wip family tree i’m working on ;D)
single-borns tend to be given two-syllable cluster names, though on rare occasions they’re given a single-syllable name
if a member of a brood dies, their singular name is removed from the cluster name
I downloaded an art app on my phone just so I could draw while on vacation lol
Anyway these are some ocs for a twin au fanfic. If y'all wanna know more about any of them (or my fanfic idea) feel free to ask I love info dumping about my ocs lol
wip of croff and anad in their military uniforms .3.
This guy cracks me up.
