Mobile Suit Crossbone Gundam by Yuuichi Hasegawa

I've been thinking on Crossbone Gundam lately, and more specifically how it fits in the lineup of other 90s gundam series. I think it's fascinating how one of the big moments of self-actualization is Tobia refuting his status as a newtype and choosing to just be human. It feels very similar to how X deals with the newtype obsession of the time, by addressing what made Newtypes important in the first place. The ultimate development of human understanding, transcending the limits of traditional consciousness. In refusing to set himself apart from the rest of humanity and instead dive right back into the fray, Tobia sort of echos the axis flash on a smaller scale. Its this clinging to mutual love and understanding that the human race can provide, even as the boundless potential of that understanding is consumed entirely by the systems that forced them into this grand gesture. Amuro fucking dies at Axis, and Tobia ends up as a fugitive who eventually goes blind and leaves behind almost all he's ever known to rebuild a nation crippled by the endless hate of those in charge. He is ultimately unable to fulfill the Newtype dream, but millions of lives are saved on the death of that dream.

Robot Spirits Phantom Gundam
I haven’t purchased a robot spirits figure in quite some time but I couldn’t stop myself from snagging this bad boy. Initial thoughts: Holy effect parts Batman!!! No doubt all these effect pieces are the reason for the price tag. Surprisingly, the suit itself is very articulate and has good range of motion so moving the limbs isn’t too hard when all the phantom light pieces are sticking out everywhere. The phantom light parts do make it a bit heavy on the back so I’d recommend a tamashii stand if you want to get any really crazy poses.
