Progress on "Crossing the Borders" series!
Thanks to a lack of sleep and me floating somewhere between sleep and consciousness, my entire series of Crossing the Borders is getting a serious revamp! I had the most brilliant beyond brilliant idea in my groggy state.
Originally, the plot went something like this: FMC inherits an object that is activated by her light. Villains track object and try to kill them. Good organization saves them and takes them to a new world. Prophecy cliche speaks of a savior that will save the worlds from darkness. There is no motive behind why "the darkness" (an evil king in the world of Earielle) is invading other worlds. Foredained by prophecy, MC's travel to other worlds to fight "the darkness".
Sounds boring and bland, doesn't it? The backstory was interesting enough, but there was just no reason why the darkness was there or why a king in one world would want to take over many other worlds. There was also the problem of the prophecy cliche and while I understand there is no truly original ideas left, using a prophecy was just... it was just a terrible idea born from laziness if I look at it in hindsight. Try this version.
MC's find a box. Opening the box breaks a magical seal that kept the contents hidden. Within the box is an object. Villains track the object and try to kill the MC's. Good organization saves them and takes them to a new world. Knowledged character explains there is a darkness raiding and conquering other worlds in search of the object held by the MC's. MC's cannot go home so they decide to try to return the object to its original owner, but they don't know who or where. They travel to other worlds in search of it's owner.
I would honestly love to tell you guys how much the backstory has changed, but that would ruin the book. Plus, I still have a few important wrinkles to iron out. I'm currently working on the second draft of the first novel. While the individual plot of the first book has changed, the perspective on the series as a whole has been more thought out. Now I just need to write it all down! Hahaha.
