S2 Inbetweeners Episode 6 - Taco (and Leaf) Date
[Main Episode] [Previous Inbetweener] [Next Inbetweener]
“This has to be perfect,” Taco says as she walks around Fern, who’s holding a violin.
“I cannot play for forty minutes straight,” Fern says. “I only learned it in the first place because my parents forced me too, I only started practicing again because you said you needed it,”
“I do need it,” Taco says. “If this date is anything less than perfect she will… something will happen and it won’t be good,”
“Nothing’s going to happen,” Fern says.
Taco walks off in a huff and goes into the kitchen where Cattail is preparing food.
“How’s the food?” Taco asks with a worried expression.
“Great!” Cattail says. “Want to taste the sauce?"
“Might as well,” Taco says, Cattail gets a spoon and scoops some sauce and the gives it to Taco who eats it.
Taco pauses for a moment, her face goes through many emotions. Finally she gets through it and gives Cattail a positive look.
“That’s great, really great,” Taco says. “…Fern!” She calls and runs back out.
“I can’t believe she likes our food,” Cattail says.
“My parents were chefs,” Basketball says.
“Really?” Cattail asks.
“Guys where do I put this two tun bucket of whip cream?” Cane’s Cup asks, coming in carrying a two tun bucket of whip cream. Along with some help from Sketchpad.
“…Is that what you two have been doing the entire time?” Basketball asks.
“We never needed whip cream,” Cattail says.
“…Are you serious?” Sketchpad asks. “We carried this through three miles, two hills, through fifteen people, then through the capital and then got here after a magical awesome cool over 7,000 word adventure,” Sketchpad says with an annoyed look on his face.
“Who told you guys to get it?” Cattail asks.
“You did?” Sketchpad says. “That’s what Cane’s Cup said,”
“I thought you said Taco wanted it,” Cane’s Cup says.
“…Dang it!” Sketchpad says and throws the bucket to the ground.
“Be careful with that,” Cane’s Cup says and puts his side down gently.
“No!” Sketchpad says. “Apparently I’m useless!” Sketchpad says and storms out of the kitchen.
Everyone stands in silence for a moment.
“…When do we have to take the pie out of the oven?” Basketball asks.
“About five minutes,” Cattail says.
Sketchpad storms off and walks past the room that Taco is trying to get Fern to play right.
“You know what? I have to tell Leafy about a time to meet. That will give you enough rest and then we can resume,” Taco says and walks away from Fern.
“It will not!” Fern yells then sighs. He puts the violin down then lays on the floor.
Taco walks out and sees Sketchpad walk away from the kitchen.
“What are you doing?” Taco asks.
“Being useless somewhere else,” Sketchpad says and keeps walking away.
Taco sighs.
“I have other things to worry about,” Taco says to herself and walks up to Leafy’s room.
She goes to her and Leafy’s shared room and knocks.
“Love, are you decent?” Taco asks.
Leafy opens the door.
“I’m always de… decent,” Leafy says.
“You keep failing to know what I mean by that. Now is not the time for that however. If you will, when the sun starts to fall, which will begin around 5:00pm, come back here and we will do something together,” Taco says.
“Really? Something?” Leafy asks.
“Absolutely,” Taco says.
“Wow! Sounds great Taco, see you then!” Leafy says.
“Of course,” Taco says and walks back down the stairs.
“Taco is such a nice girlfriend,” Leafy says as she goes back into their room. “I should give her a gift! But what… I know! We’ve never done a date before, we should do that,”
Leafy immediately opens her door back up and runs over to her neighbor's: Spellbook's door and knocks on it.
“Hello?” Spellbook asks. “Leafy! How can I help you old buddy old friend?” Spellbook says as happy as can be.
“I need to plan a date with Taco!” Leafy says happily.
Immediately Spellbook’s expression drops to a frown.
“Oh,” Spellbook says.
“You gotta help me plan it!” Leafy says.
“That does sound like fun,” Spellbook says. “I do also love to help, so of course I’ll help! Even if I didn’t find it fun, I would still help, I would help anyone!”
“I knew I could count on you! But I feel as if we need someone else to round us out,” Leafy says. “Someone a bit more objective,”
“I can be objective!” Spellbook says.
“Trust me, she’s great!” Leafy says. “Follow me,” Leafy walks up the stairs.
Spellbook follows her all the way up to their destination, the fourth floor. Leafy walks over to the first room and knocks on the door.
“Hello?” Fish Taco answers the door.
“Taco!” Leafy says. “You're a taco right?”
“…I think so,” Fish Taco says.
“Great! You know what tacos like then! You can help me plan this date I want to make for Taco,” Leafy says.
“Aw, that’s nice, I would love to help,” Fish Taco says.
“The dream team is set,” Leafy says. “Now we have to plan,”
Leafy walks off followed by Spellbook and Fish Taco.
“First we have to collect data!” Leafy says and knocks on a door.
“Who’s door is this?” Fish Taco asks.
“Hello? Oh hey!” Lightbulb says as she opens the door.
“How do you four go on dates?” Leafy asks.
“Huh?” Test Tube says inside the room.
“I don’t think we’ve ever gone on a date…” Lightbulb says.
“Becuase we’re not dating!” Paintbrush says.
“Oh,” Leafy says. “My bad!” Leafy then runs away to another room nearby and knocks.
“What do you- Oh hey Leafy,” Broomer says.
“Hi Broomer! How do you do a date?” Leafy asks.
Broomer pauses for a moment.
“Babe!” He calls into the room. “What did we do for our last date?”
“I think we went to a party?” Chalky says.
“Raiding Chocolate Bar’s house doesn’t count as a date!” Broomer says.
“Then I have no idea,” Chalky says.
“…Sorry,” Broomer says, turning back to Leafy and the others. “Bad memory. Maybe you could ask someone else?”
“We already asked your child,” Fish Taco says.
“They’re not our child,” Broomer says.
“Really?” Spellbook asks. “You guys look-”
“Don’t want to hear it. Do you have any date ideas in mind?” Broomer asks.
“A picnic!” Leafy says.
“Sounds good, better than anything I can give you,” Broomer says. “Good luck,”
“Thanks Broomer!” Leafy says as he closes the door. “A picnic it is then! We’ll just have to go with our gut!”
“We could ask other people,” Fish Taco says.
“Not enough time we have to be ready-
By Five O’clock sharp,” Taco says.
“Should be ready by then,” Cattail says.
“Thank you,” Taco says. “I thought Fern would be the easy one but you two seem to be the opposite of what I expected,"
“Be easy on him,” Cattail says. “I’ve never seen him play the violin before and I’ve known him for… forever,”
“No matter. Maybe I can only have him play at the beginning and end, have him fade away? …Lots to think about,” Taco says and walks out of the kitchen once more.
“I think we’re almost ready to take out the pie,” Basketball says.
“Do you think Taco is doing alright?” Cattail asks.
“…Uhhhhh, I have zero clue,” Basketball says. “Anyway, we got the soup, the spaghetti and the chicken to still do… I think Cane’s Cup is trying to do the desserts,”
“Does he know how to do the desserts?” Cattail asks.
“Come on, come on,” Cane’s Cup says, trying to get chocolate syrup out of a container. Only for it to splat out and into his face.
“We can fix any mistake he makes,” Basketball says.
“That’s fine… yeah… okay… the spaghetti will take the longest so let’s do that first,” Cattail says, Basketball nods.
Taco walks back to Fern.
“We have come to an understanding, how about at the beginning and the end. Five minutes,” Taco says.
“Now you're lowballing me, but I’ll take it,” Fern says. “Still need to learn this piece,”
“It shouldn’t be that hard,” Taco says.
“You try it,” Fern says.
“You know what? I will,” Taco says.
She begins to play and it takes a moment for her to get the hang of it but eventually she starts to get better and while she harmonizes well, she fails to actually play the piece at all.
“…Wow,” Fern says. “How… I mean you didn’t play the piece…”
“Make it sound like that then,” Taco says with a smirk. “I still have to set the table,”
Fern says nothing but continues to practice.
“Wow, this is beautiful!” Leafy says.
“It took forever to get up here though,” Fish Taco says. “I think Spellbook is dying,”
“Help me,” Spellbook says while she tries to catch her breath and to stand up.
“But it has to be the best,” Leafy says. “I bet this hike with be worth it,”
“I need oxygen!” Spellbook yells.
“Will she even enjoy the hike up?” Fish Taco asks.
“Even if she starts to get tired, I’ll carry her! It’ll be so romantic,” Leafy says.
“But you’ll also have to carry up everything else,” Fish Taco says.
“…I can take trips, it only took… about… five minutes?” Leafy asks.
“Twenty,” Fish Taco says.
“We’re running out of time,” Leafy says. “What should I bring on a picnic?”
“Sandwiches?” Fish Taco says.
Spellbook lays on the ground motionless.
“Do you think we should help her?” Fish Taco asks.
“Ovexserted herself to death, truly a great friend,” Leafy says.
Spellbook suddenly inhales.
“I SAW THE AFTERLIFE AND IT WAS BLUE!” Spellbook screams.
“Oh yay, you’re awake! What should I bring to the picnic?” Leafy asks.
Spellbook pauses then thinks for a moment.
“Chips?” Spellbook suggests.
“That’s good as well. Chips, Sandwiches, Taco would probably like tea. What about dessert?” Leafy asks.
“…Pie?” Fish Taco says.
“Strawberry Cake?” Spellbook says.
“How about some cupcakes?” Leafy says. “I think Taco likes vanilla… maybe I’ll ask her that. Maybe bring some waters…” Leafy then starts thinking to herself.
“I think she’s in her own head now,” Fish Taco says.
“At least I get some rest now…” Spellbook says and sits down.
“I got it!” Leafy says then runs away.
“Oh no…” Spellbook says.
Fish Taco shrugs at Spellbook and runs down with the hill with Leafy. Spellbook groans and slowly gets up. Leafy runs all the way down the hill and back to the hotel, while Fish Taco follows her easily. While Spellbook isn’t even half way down the hill.
“At least downhill is easier?” Spellbook says out loud.
Leafy gets back to her room and writes down a list. Then as soon as she’s done she gives it to Fish Taco.
“What’s this for?” Fish Taco asks.
“I want to prepare, can you cook?” Leafy asks.
“I can get stuff… don’t you want to do this later?” Fish Taco asks.
“The thing with Taco will probably only take a minute or two and even if it doesn’t we can call it off. I want to be prepared. Plus if we get it right, we can watch the sun set!” Leafy says. “It’ll be so pretty!”
“Wow… you really thought this through,” Fish Taco says.
“Of course I did, that's what happens when you think for only five seconds… wait a minute, where's Spelly?” Leafy asks.
“I think she’s still struggling down the hill,” Fish Taco says,
“WHY MUST I BE FORSAKENED?” Spellbook yells still in the middle of the hill yelling out into nature.
“Well whenever she gets back tell her to get a picnic blanket and basket and to help you with the food if she has time,” Leafy says. “I have to prepare for whatever Taco wants to do and our date,”
“Alrighty, I’ll go and see what I can do,” Fish Taco says.
Leafy smile somehow gets bigger and then she closes the door. Fish Taco walks away and down to the lobby,
“…NEED…OXYGEN…” Spellbook says as she claws to the ground and tries to propel herself forward in this lobby.
“What is this?” OJ asks, motioning to everything about Spellbook.
“Oh cool you're here,” Fish Taco says and goes up to Spellbook. “Leafy says you need to go get her a picnic blanket and basket and once you're done with that help me with the food,” Fish Taco then leaves to go to the kitchen.
Spellbook pauses then looks at OJ.
“My bad,” OJ says.
Spellbook manages to get up and go to the kitchen.
“It smells good, what are you making?” Fish Taco asks as she enters the kitchen.
“A bunch of stuff. Chicken, pie, spaghetti and Cane’s Cup is making a bunch of other stuff,” Cattail says.
“I think I broke the chocolate bar,” Cane’s Cup says, now covered in chocolate from head to toe.
“How did that much get on you from a chocolate bar?” Basketball asks.
Cane’s Cup shrugs then starts licking his arm. Then his other arm, then his leg. Then he trips and falls onto the floor, where he licks his other leg as everyone watches.
“Who’s it for?” Fish Taco asks.
Cattail and Basketball pause.
“…I think we’re supposed to keep that a secret?” Cattail says.
“Better safe than sorry,” Basketball says.
“Ah, well when it’s going to be done?” Fish Taco asks.
“In about… one minute from now,” Cattail says.
The three stand around for a moment.
“A minute from now!” Cattail says and immediately starts running around trying to get ready to take everything out.
Taco prepares herself.
“To be safe, start playing a minute early, if I don’t come down in five minutes, send a rescue team,” Taco says and runs out.
“Suprised she wouldn’t make me play until she come down,” Fern says to himself as he readies himself to play.
Taco runs out and goes into the lobby where she sees OJ smiling at her.
“What?” She asks.
“Maybe it’s just me. It’s weird to see you this happy,” OJ says.
“Suprised me too,” Taco says.
“She’s really good for you,” OJ says.
“I already knew that,” Taco says. “I’m just trying to be good for her,”
Taco begins to walk away.
“It seems you already are,” OJ says under his breath.
Taco walks up the stairs and to her and Leafy’s room and knocks on the door. She smiles as it opens, revealing Leafy.
“Taco!” Leafy says happily with a big smile. Taco's smile somehow gets even wider, while also getting more relaxed.
“Leafy, love, how are you darling?” Taco asks, still a bit nervous.
“Never better,” Leafy says. “What’s that thing you wanted to do?”
“…Yes! Come with me,” Taco says and holds her hand out. Leafy happily takes it.
The two walk down the hall.
“Soooooo, What is it?” Leafy asks.
“You’ll have to wait and see,” Taco says. “How about instead you tell me about your day?”
“I went up a giant hill, with a great view and I got to hang out with Spellbook and Taco… the other Taco,” Leafy says.
“That sounds wonderful,” Taco says, the two then go down the stairs and through the lobby. OJ gives Taco a thumbs up.
Leafy doesn’t notice it but Taco does. She gives him a smile. The two round the corner and find a dining area. Where Fern is playing music, the table is set and it already has food on it. Taco smiles, Leafy looks surprised and awestruck at the scene.
“Our first date,” Taco says. She leads Leafy to her chair and pulls it out for her. Leafy sits down and Taco pushes her in.
Taco walks to the other side and sits down. Leafy looks at all the food.
“All for you, my love,” Taco says.
Leafy, still awestruck, looks at Taco, who herself looks lovestruck.
“Wow,” Leafy says, her first words in a while. She starts filling up her plate. Taco follows her.
The two begin to eat as Fern slowly stops playing. Then exits the room quietly and goes into the kitchen.
“How did you mess that up?" Cattail asks Cane’s Cup as Fern sees a half frozen half burnt cake.
“I dunno, I thought that’s how it was supposed to look,” Cane’s Cup says with a shrug, Cattail facepalms with her tail.
Basketball walks away before he hurts someone. Fern takes his place, looking concerned at… everything.
“Fern!” Cattail says.
“Hey. Good news, everything is going well for them… I assume this is the bad news,” Fern says.
“Most of it is salvageable but this? I don’t even know where to start,” Cattail says.
“Well since we have three competent people now. I think we can remake it. How good are you with Chocolate Coverings Fern?” Basketball asks.
“I have no idea how to do it. But also I’ll eventually have to go back out there to play again,” Fern says. “Plus I need rest, I barely got through that and it’s supposed to be a beginner piece,”
“…Crap,” Basketball says. “Isn’t there anyone else who could help us?”
“Hey guys. I forgot to grab-” Fish Taco says as she walks in. “What?”
“Fish Taco, your friends with Leafy right?” Basketball asks.
“Yes?” Fish Taco says.
“She’s on a date prepared by Taco right now. We need to get a cake out and we need three people. Fern can’t do it because they need to play, Cane’s Cup can’t do it because… I mean look at what he did to the cake,” Basketball says and let’s Fish Taco look at the cake. “We need you to help us, if not do us, for Leafy,”
“…Oh,” Fish Taco says. “I’m actually currently planning a date for Leafy,”
“You're going on a date with Leafy?” Cane’s Cup asks.
“That’s not even close to what she said,” Basketball says.
“That’s why I’ve been in here,” Fish Taco says. “I’ve been trying to prepare. She said that the thing with Taco would only take a minute,”
“Wait but if you're here, and Taco’s there…” Cane’s Cup says and begins to think and then keeps thinking.
“Ignore him,” Basketball says. “Right now we need you to help us,”
“Okay…” Fish Taco says. “I guess I can help, what do you need me to do?”
Unaware of the mess, Taco and Leafy remain happy as can be as they eat.
“How did you even do this?” Leafy asks.
“Lots of help, thank Cattail when you can,” Taco says. “Right now. Just enjoy,”
“This is so thoughtful of you Taco,” Leafy says. “How did I ever get a girlfriend like you?”
“I try my best. I’m not as good as you,” Taco says.
Meanwhile right outside. Microphone is hearing this and is looking like she’s about to explode. Missing Dog Poster right next to her is trying to drag her away.
To which OJ notices and helps Missing Dog Poster drags her away.
While Taco and Leafy remain oblivious.
All while Spellbook walks down the stairs. Carrying a picnic basket and a blanket.
“How nice of Cabby to give me these to help Leafy! I should do something nice for her,” Spellbook says.
Eventually she and OJ, Microphone and Missing Dog Poster accidentally meet on the stairs. They begin to walk down the hall together. Seeing an opportunity to potentially calm Microphone down or at least distract her, OJ turns to Spellbook.
“What do you have there Spellbook?” OJ asks, Spellbook smiles.
“It’s a picnic basket and a blanket!” Spellbook says.
“Oh wow, that sounds fun, what are you going to do with it?” OJ asks.
“It isn’t for me,” Spellbook says.
“Who’s it for then?” OJ asks.
“I’m helping out Leafy so she can take Taco on a picnic date!” Spellbook says happily. OJ instantly regrets saying anything.
Microphone stops and turns around and looks at Spellbook, who is too afraid to back away. Microphone takes the blanket and rips it, then smashes the basket. Then walks away. Missing Dog Poster immediately runs after her. While OJ looks back for a moment and then follows the two, leaving Spellbook alone.
“…How am I going to explain this to Cabby?” She asks through tears.
Sketchpad walks down the stairs. Somehow still mad, sees the scene of Spellbook before him then runs down to avoid it. He goes to the lobby and looks around. Seeing nobody, he sighs and goes into the kitchen.
“WHERE’S THE FLOWER?”
“Why are there so many eggs?”
“Why did you get another two pound whip cream container?"
“THERE’S NO BUTTER!”
Cane’s Cup sees Sketchpad and walks over to him.
“Can you get us some… uh… what was it again?” Cane’s Cup asks, only for a spatula to be thrown at him. “Butter, it was butter,”
“I won’t let you down!” Sketchpad says and runs out of the room.
“We have to bring out the second course,” Cattail says. They look at the dishes, very much unprepared.
“I got this,” Cane’s Cup says and then trips on nothing and hits his head and out leaks a liquid of some kind.
“Did he just die?” Fish Taco asks.
“No time,” Basketball says. “Help us, your the only one with arms,”
“I don’t see why that’s such a big deal to you,” Cattail says.
While they try to get the dishes prepared. Taco and Leafy finish up their meal.
“This had been such a nice meal,” Leafy says. “Thank you Taco,”
“That’s not it yet,” Taco says. “There should be a second course coming soon,”
“Wow, a second course? Two courses? Taco, you spoil me,” Leafy says.
“Only the best for you, Love,” Taco says. The two sit in silence for a moment. “Let me check on them, I bet they’ve been working very hard. Can’t rush perfection, of course,”
Leafy nods in agreement as Taco walks over to the kitchen and out of the dining area. Then opens the doors. Seeing Cane’s Cup on the ground, presumably dead and everyone else rushing to plate the food.
“I have no idea what a ‘garnish’ even is dude,” Fish Taco says.
“Just put the basil on,” Basketball says.
“I’ll take out the spaghetti,” Cattail says and grabs the two bowls but stops in her tracks when she sees Taco.
“…Give me a moment,” Taco says and rushes back to her place.
“We just avoided a disaster,” Cattail says.
“Lucky us, we still need to put forks with the bowls,” Basketball says. Cattail puts the bowls down, then Basketball puts on the forks and then Cattail runs to the dining room.
“They’ll be here any second,” Taco says walking back out to Leafy.
“Oh boy, I can’t wait!” Leafy says. Taco can’t help but smile at her positive attitude.
Cattail walks in after a second and sets down the spaghetti.
“Here you go, sorry for the wait,” Cattail says with a smile.
“It’s quite alright Cattail, I trust your cooking competence,” Taco says.
“Thank you Cattail!” Leafy says.
“Of course!” Cattail says and then leaves. As soon as she’s out of view of Leafy she begins to run.
Taco notices but doesn’t say anything.
“I don’t think I’ve had this before,” Leafy says.
“Spaghetti?” Taco asks.
“…Never heard of it,” Leafy says.
“I bet you’ll love it,” Taco says.
The rest of the dishes are gradually brought out. As Leafy happily consumes them all. Of course Basketball or Cattail always runs back as soon as they’re out of Leafy’s sight. Taco tries not to worry too much however her mind wanders a bit. Unfortunately she isn’t far off.
After they’re done with their second course, dessert isn’t ready yet. After a moment Taco begins to become worried.
“How about I take your plate for you?” Taco asks. “I bet the cooks will appreciate us helping them with dishes,”
“Are you sure? I can take it myself,” Leafy says.
“Tonight, you don’t have to worry about doing anything,” Taco says, kisses Leafy on the forehead which Leafy smiles at. Then takes their dishes to the kitchen.
Taco busts into the kitchen and gently but quickly puts the dishes in the sink. Then turns to the cooks.
“Where is the dessert?” Taco asks, as calmly as she can muster.
“…We have most of it ready,” Cattail says. “But the cake…”
“If most of it is ready, that’s fine by me,” Taco says. “Just get it out there,”
Sketchpad then busts into the room.
“Guys I got the butter!” Sketchpad says.
“We can make the cake,” Cattail says.
“Very good,” Taco says, looking a bit more calm. “I will be awaiting it then,”
Taco walks out and goes back to Leafy.
“Are they okay in there?” Leafy asks.
“What did I say about worrying, Love?” Taco asks. “They are more than good, they are great,”
“How long does it take to make a cake?” Fish Taco asks back in the kitchen. Trying to read the instructions.
“Thirty minutes at least?” Cattail asks.
“Why don’t we just turn the dial up?” Sketchpad asks.
“WAIT NO SKETCHPAD DON’T DO THAT!” Basketball says.
“What do you mean-” Sketchpad begins to asks then a flame comes out of the oven.
Basketball pauses Sketchpad away and turns down the dial.
“At least we avoided that,” Basketball says. “Cattail, let’s carry these out,”
Basketball and Cattail leave while Sketchpad frowns.
“A flame came out, so what?” Sketchpad asks, gets back on the oven and turns the dial but a bit less this time.
“I don’t think you should do that…” Fish Taco says.
“What’s the worst that can happen?” Sketchpad says.
Cattail and Basketball come back at that exact moment.
“I told you not to-” Basketball begins to say.
Flames begin to pour out. Sketchpad trips and that makes the dial go even higher than the first time as he splats onto the ground. Basketball runs to the dial and tries to turn it off but flames block him as he jumps back in fear.
Cattail gets the fire extinguisher. Then tries to use it but it doesn’t output the normal fluid. Instead it outputs whip cream.
“What the-” Cattail says.
“Oh hey guys,” Cane’s Cup says. “I wasn’t actually dead I was resting, also I was the one who put the whip cream we had left over into the fire extinguisher,”
“Don’t worry guys I got a bucket of water!” Fish Taco says.
“WAIT NO DON’T DO THAT IT’S A GREASE-” Basketball says.
Taco can hear a sound from the kitchen. Leafy also hears it and turns around.
“What was that?” Leafy says her voice laced with concern.
“I’ll go check it out,” Taco says. “Keep enjoying dessert,”
Taco walks but then runs as soon as she’s out of Leafy’s sight and immediately runs to the kitchen.
She gets into the room to see Basketball and Sketchpad on the floor, Fish Taco looking confused at a bucket. Cattail confused at a fire extinguisher dispensing only whip cream and Cane’s Cup happily waving at her.
“What is going on in here?” OJ says, arriving in record time.
“Where did you come from?” Taco asks.
“My brain is a built in alarm system for when anything goes wrong in a hotel,” OJ says. “Now, answer my question,”
“I just got here. Last time it was perfectly normal,” Taco says.
OJ sighs.
“Let me help,” He says he gets a fire extinguisher out from the hall. Which extinguishes the fire. He turns the dial down and takes the bucket away from Fish Taco.
“Thank you,” Taco says.
“I’m still wondering how this happened,” OJ says.
“Sketchpad set the dial off, Cane’s Cup filled this fire extinguisher with whip cream and Fish Taco poured water on the fire,” Cattail says.
“…Two of you don’t even live in this hotel, how are you managing to cause more chaos than most of my tenants?” OJ asks.
Just then OJ can hear Bowling Ball falling down the stairs and the sound of glass shattering. He grimaces.
“Enjoy the rest of your date Taco,” OJ says.
“…Thank you,” Taco says with a smile which causes OJ to smile even if for only a second. “Clean this up, we’re done cooking… also where’s Fern? Go get him, we’re rapping this up,”
Taco walks away.
“You heard her,” Cattail says. Everyone sighs then starts cleaning up.
“What was it?” Leafy asks.
“A bit of a mishap in the kitchen but it’s all good now,” Taco says.
The two slowly finish their dinner.
“Taco,” Leafy says.
“Yes?” Taco asks.
“Thanks. This was the best date ever. I mean it’s the only date I’ve ever been on but I assume it’s probably one the bed anyone has ever gotten,” Leafy says.
Taco smiles.
“I wouldn’t have done it if it wasn’t for you,” Taco says.
The two manage to finish their dinner and Taco and Leafy say goodbye, at least until they see each other in their shared room later. As Taco goes to the kitchen and Leafy goes to their bedroom. Leafy doesn’t even question what happened to the rest of their dessert. Taco then takes the plates and washes them.
“Want some help?” Cattail asks.
“…Yes,” Taco says.
The two wash the dishes in silence. Once they’re finished Taco looks to leave.
“I just wanted to say-” Cattail says. Taco approaches her.
“You did great, not the best, but great,” Taco says. “I don’t think Leafy even realized anything was wrong. That’s the best I could give her. You did more than enough. But I do have one question,” Taco says with a serious expression.
Cattail nods to hear it.
“Where is Fern?” Taco asks, looking angry.
Leafy happily goes back to her room, giggling and smiling all the way back. Happily going to back her room and shutting the door as she happily recounts the date and how her’s will be hopefully half as good.
Which Microphone hears through the walls due Leafy’s loud personality, voice and excitement. She starts to cry.
A few days later, after Leafy can acquire another blanket and a picnic basket. As Spellbook said she couldn’t find one. She and Taco make their trek up the hill. It takes a bit of a climb so much so that Leafy does get to carry Taco for a bit. Not for too long however. Eventually after about twenty minutes, they get to the top of the mountain. Taco looks enthralled with the view with Leafy celebrating in her head about the success. After they admire the view, Leafy and Taco lay the blanket and the basket and themselves down. They eat what little they have: sandwiches and chips as well as drink tea. Then for dessert they have strawberry shortcake.
“You have something on your face,” Taco says. Then quickly wipes Leafy’s face of the small amount of whip cream on it.
Leafy blushes, then Taco blushes then the two go back to eating their dessert.
“I’m surprised how tasty this is for a premade meal,” Taco says at the dessert while looking pleasantly surprised.
“Well I made it with love!” Leafy says. Taco can’t help but smile at that.
After that they put it all back into the basket and watch as the sun sets. A beautiful display of yellow, orange, red and even some purple. Taco sees how different her sun is compared to Leafy’s sun.
“I’m glad I picked this spot,” Leafy says.
“Yes…” Taco says, then looks at Leafy. Who’s looking at the sun, then Taco looks back to the sun.
“It’s so beautiful!” Leafy exclaims and Taco can’t help but smile at her.
At the end the sun sets. It’s dark but the stars are out. They spend an extra few minutes star gazing… more like thirty minutes but at some point nobody can count the minutes but them and they don’t want to count. Eventually they pack up and make the trek home, hand in hand.
“…I think I enjoyed this date more,” Taco admits. Which makes Leafy smile brighter than any sun can.
