I WRITING STORY. Search for "Da Mihi Ut Omne Humanum" on Archive of Our Own. It has two chapters so far, though I'm writing the third rn.

I just read it, I like it so far! I had no idea what to expect, but it definitely wasn't that!

On a scale of 1 to HOLY SHIT YOU'LL LOVE IT IT'S MY FREAKIN FAVE, how much priority should be given to watching In The Flesh?

Well, I watched it all in two days and then wrote two pretty darn good songs off the bat. I’ve never managed a good song from Sherlock, so that says something.

And obviously there are:

> Canon gay/queer/not straight characters. It’s not made a big deal of (they’re not flaming stereotypes, but actual people, which is great), but it is acknowledged and suitably present for representation. They hold hands, they kiss, it’s canon, it’s happening and helps actively shape the plot.

> Complex female characters. That are well fleshed out (ehehe) and you know, people. They get just as much development as the males and it is just as significant.

> Clever parallels between the Risen and Jews in Nazi Germany. Some people have theorised parallels between the AIDS crisis as well (though I’m not knowledgeable enough to write at length on those). But yeah, there’s a meaty bite of this show addressing discrimination and oppression, and how it’s impossible to vilify and condemn such a huge portion of society without, you know, masses and masses of problems.

> It’s an interesting take on the zombie apocalypse, and specifically trying to get on with life afterwards. Specifically emotionally repressed Brits. 

> Shows mental illness as something that can happen to anybody, and portrays it realistically. The living, the dead, the heroes, the cowards. Nobody is ‘normal’ in so much as nobody can be. It’s developed, it’s talked about, it’s not belittled and it’s relevant to the narrative as a factor known to effect a character’s behaviour. 

ALSO it’s not even that long a series, there are only two; as I said, you can get this done in two days. Here is where I watched it, I assume the links are all still working.
