JADE, AND HISUI’S RELATION TO IT (PART 3/?).

As stated in the previous parts of this headcanon, Hisui actually only owns one piece of Jade jewellery - an enchanted amulet with healing properties that brings luck and serenity to its user, as are the properties of the gemstone itself.

This is not an item of jewellery that she keeps for herself.

Instead, it is something that she gives to those who serve at her side - in particular, her personal guard, or someone in a position in the army's ranks that works in very close correspondence with the Princess herself.

In recent canon & headcanon history, this amulet was worn by Arcadios, the knight who - as we know - served as Hisui's personal guard and Commander of the Crocus Royal Guard. She saw him as an uncle-figure, someone she truly could trust with her life and her well-being, and someone who always been especially kind to her.

When Archie dies saving Lucy and Yukino from the lava and the amulet is retrieved from him, Hisui holds onto it for a long time before giving it to anyone else. This is because she is very reluctant to find a replacement to fill his specific role in her life, due being unable to cope with and properly grieve his loss for many, many months. 

( Her father, as usual, has other ideas. Though on this occasion, that isn't really a bad thing. )

In most Fairy Tail verses, this amulet is eventually given away again, this time to her new guard (which, depending on the specific verses, will either be Yukino or Yerik). This will only be done when she is finished denying herself the right to come to terms with Arcadios' loss, and she realises that - though she has been reluctant to allow them to become close to her - Yukino/Yerik have nothing but her best interests at heart, and are just as worthy of her trust and respect as the man before them had been.

She gives it to them because, eventually, she treasures their loyalty, friendship and strength just as much as she treasured Archie's. The gift of this amulet signifies her will for them to be the ones to protect her, and it is far more useful than just a simple ‘thank you’ on its own.

Naive. It was a word that had stung just a little bit more since the day it had left her father's tongue laced with venom and disappointment.

That was no fault of Yerik's, of course; she was more than aware that he had likely not intended to offend her. His words to follow were a testament to that, and as such, she fought off any visual reaction as self-dissatisfaction crawled beneath her skin and made itself at home.

         “ I suppose, ”  Hisui found herself not quite able to meet his gaze in its entirety, and soon cast her peridot-green eyes to the impressive architecture of her father's palace, watching the dip and sway of dim candlelight through stained-glass windows. A faint smile took to her lips. “ I have to be useful for something, after all. ”

     “ You didn't, no. ” It was the Princess, in fact, that had raised concern for his welfare. “ Most people don't, either, unless they're ill or dying. ”  

That was simply the reality of her job: people called upon her out of need, rather than a genuine desire to see her. Few people saw a healer for the fun of it, after all; that was something she had long since become accustomed to - and comfortable with - enabling her to remain unphased in situations such as these.

It was neither his bloodied fists nor the destruction behind him that her eyes sought. Instead, her own unwavering gaze met his as she stood a pace or two from him, every bit as confident and determined as she always was.

     “ Not that it matters much. I'm not leaving, regardless. ”

A platonic kiss from Yerik ~

         “ Oh, thank goodness. ”

Unexpected complications in the mission, due to factors previously unpredicted by her father and his advisories, meant that Yerik and the rest of his troop had experienced several days of delay on the date that they were due to return; it seemed Hisui had been unable to settle since. But now, seeing the familiar face of her not-so-new commander emerge through the palace gates, the Princess could not fight the overwhelming relief that washed away all of the worries and fears that had consumed her for the last few days that had passed. 

Truth be told, though she had once longed to be as far from this man as possible, the fondness she had developed for him had caused her to become most unwilling to send him away from the palace for so long - especially on such dangerous missions. Such things had not concerned her when she was younger, when all those that she treasured had seemed invincible, but in far more recent times she had learned that her often-naive positivity was not always rewarded in reality.

She had already lost her dearest friend to one the Royal Family’s previous operations, and losing another was a thought that made her stomach churn. 

Still, he was here now. It became apparent in her approach that he wasn’t entirely unscathed, but so long as he was alive and soldering on as he always did, then she would not be too worried about his state of health. Besides, Althea would be able to treat what he himself could not see to - in fact, once everyone was accounted for, she’d be sure to arrange appointments for him and the rest of his comrades.

For now, though, she would see to flinging her dainty arms around him, pulling the commander into an embrace as tight as such a small woman could muster - though not before leaving a gentle kiss upon his cheek. Hisui remained this way for many a second, disregarding the raised brows and questionable looks from the many troops within close vicinity.

                      “ I’m so glad that you’re okay. ”

She didn’t care what others thought of this display unfolding before them. He was like a brother to her, and even as she pulled away to give him the space he needed to direct the men beneath him, the Princess could not contain the look of genuine happiness that had shaped her lips and sparkled behind her soft green eyes. 

He was home. To her, that was all that really mattered.

Can no one understand that war solves nothing? There will always be war, always in the name of freedom and peace. How can there be freedom when men die senselessly? How can there be peace when men have to fight to attain it? Humanity will always run in pursuit of those two desirable states and never ever find them.
