i've been meaning to share my current story for sunday for a while but i keep forgetting. here it is ⬇️
he'd basically grown up alongside the king, sunday became a squire when the king was still a prince. they were friends :)
eventually sunday was knighted, and when cruel king took over the throne, they were chosen as like, his favourite knight. right hand man kind of thing. by this point they'd both had feelings for each other for a While, but they were both pushing it down (the king had to focus on running the kingdom, and sunday didn’t want to let her emotions affect her ability to protect the king). they still let their guard down around each other though, relying on each other for a quiet kind of reassurance and support when things got too stressful in the castle/kingdom. there were a lot of “friends don’t do that” moments between them, which only made their feelings grow stronger.
one night they kissed. it just happened. spur of the moment decision. it had been a really bad day for the both of them. they were just hugging and then they held each other's faces and looked into each other's eyes for just a few moments too long, and for whatever reason, the king went for it. sunday didn't pull away. it felt so nice. finally the tension between them that had been present for years just dissipated. sunday was called into the king's quarters more often after that, and rumours began to fly among the castle staff (they were never really addressed).
when the icedagger began to corrupt him, everyone in the castle noticed the shift in his behaviour. sunday especially. he was avoidant and irritable, he looked troubled all the time, and he was always cold. that comforting warmth she'd known for years had been overtaken by a chill that seemed to penetrate through her own skin and into their soul. still, he tried to be there for the king as best he could. it was her sworn duty, after all. but the growing distance hurt both of them.
sunday was there when he died. she was one of the knights he called in to help fight the player. the battle didn't kill them, but as we know, it did kill the king. left grieving and with no other ruler to serve, sunday followed the other blackrock knights to telamon's manor. they had all loved the king a great deal, so they were all a bit broken after his death, but sunday had it the worst. that was his closest friend, his lover, the man he had dedicated his entire life to protecting. and he'd failed to do that.
one day, someone told him about the guru in bizville. that he'd be able to help him work through the grief. they decided to just give it a shot.
they do reunite, in the way that the guru's meditation allows them to. it's bittersweet. sunday doesn't want to show his face in front of him. how could she? after failing to protect him? but he calls them over from across the space. that same love in his voice they remembered from so long ago. they felt so ashamed. to think he'd still see them in that light. he refuses to forgive himself for failing to protect him, but the king has long forgiven her. he was never even disappointed in the first place. they just don't get it. how kind and benevolent her king is.
bonus: ingame, sunday can be found in telamon's manor in the same room as the other knights. if the player has cruel king's call card, they can talk to her and get some special dialogue:
"...His Majesty told me about you."
"He said you're a skilled fighter. That you've got a noble cause."
"...If His Majesty trusts you, I do as well."
"You'd better make him proud."
