Good afternoon #morningwarriors This morning I had the pleasure of spending time at breakfast with my oldest playing #checkers She almost had me beat, but then started to lay off her attack. She was making reckless moves, and thought because she had eaten more pieces, that she could coast to victory. After the game, she was frustrated with the end results, so I took the opportunity to list out the reasons she lost. 1. Don’t sacrifice without opportunity to gain. One step back, is okay if it means 3 steps forward. 2. Play smart; playing doesn’t always have to be serious, but still requires the respect of being intelligent about your moves. 3. Be Relentless; keep your eye on the prize. Don’t let fatigue or other distractions lower the intensity of the want to achieve your goal(s). Looking at that list, I couldn’t help notice how many life lessons where on the board. Good morning #morningwarriors Many times we say to ourselves: “when my situation gets better, I will be better” “When I have a better team, I’ll be a better leader” “When I lose 15lbs, I’ll feel better” What if we were to Feel better first, and then allow that to carry us towards being better? Since daylight savings time, I was having difficulties getting back to my regular morning schedule. I kept on saying to myself, “when I can get back to waking up before 5am, I’ll feel more in control of my day. “ But it was when I detached my feeling of Being in Control from my alarm clock, that I gained control. I started focusing on practicing and reminding myself that I am in control as long as I respect the hours that I have. I kept on reminding myself of the philosophy that there are 24 hours in a day. I reminded myself that any hours I have where my eyes are open, are a gift from God. Suddenly, waking up earlier wasn’t a problem. Waking up happy, rather then disappointed at the clock, was easy. My friends, we are our own biggest critics. We are our own biggest problems. BUT, we are also our own greatest cheerleaders. Allow your feelings to dictate your behaviour. Appreciate the fact that you and the people you interact with are all going through challenges and changes. Appreciate that many of us are now realizing that the honeymoon stage of the quarantine is done, and this ‘new normal’ is going to be longer than expected.
