Crustified Dibbs: “Bloodshed Hua Hoo” (1994)
Let’s take a look at how hip-hop / rap put Long Island (Nassau and Suffolk counties) on the map. Wyandanch has Rakim, Brentwood gave us EPMD and Craig Mack, Central Islip with Keith Murray, and Bay Shore gave birth to LL Cool J. Go out east to Port Jefferson and that’s where R.A. The Rugged Man originates. Before going solo, he paired with producer Mark Niles as Crustified Dibbs and in 1994 released their only album Night Of The Bloody Apes where he declared that “every record label sucks dick”. “Bloodshed Hua Hoo” was the sole single off of that album and R.A.’s breakout release which was before backpackers, critical acclaim, and paying back hip-hop with major due credit to his influences. With 2004′s Die, Rugged Man, Die!, he had great lyrical prowess had more control over with a clean and precise vocal flow. “Bloodshed Hua Hoo”? Figuratively and literally sick. R.A. eschewed gory brutality that mimicked his vocal style back then which sounded all sorts of disgusting. R.A. spewed glutted, congested, and runny complimentary bars where he spit every curse word and politically-incorrect name imaginable; but he was never the one to give a fuck what people thinks. Sound-wise, it’s bonafide late-era golden-era boom-bap and would’ve been welcome on Hot 97 or Kiss FM’s rotation. the worst part is that they didn’t play this back in the day and that's why I missed out on it. What a disgrace. My cousins from Staten Island and I lived through the golden-era of hip-hop and we would've ate this up, and I would've been an R.A. fan way before Die, Rugged Man, Die!.
