Day 6: family/the office
The Witches & The Wizards
(//Note. While this is a lore blog, a lot of headcanons are added to fill in some of the plot holes. This is what I did with the witches here)
The origin of the first witches dates back thousands of years ago, in a realm not connected to Earthbread. While I am not allowed to reveal too much information about them to you cookies, the witches are humans who are able to wield magic. I know a lot of cookies don't know what humans are, but think of them as witches, but they're more boring and can't use magic.
The first sentient desserts were made as a test by the witches. The ancient witches were messing with desserts and a substance they made known as lifepowder; the powder in cookie's dough that gives them life and sentience. With this lifepowder baked into the first batch of cookie's dough, these cookies were brought to life.
The witches were confused on how to proceed with this new information. This is where we get the split between the Witches that eat cookies, the Witches that protect the cookies, and the Wizards. The Witches that eat the cookies are the ones that GingerBrave and the cookies who escaped the oven know about. The witches that protect the cookies are the ones most cookies know about (not many cookies outside of a select few know that some witches eat the cookies), and the Wizards, while having the same goal as the witches who wish to protect the cookies, separated themselves from them, as they wanted to be mathematical and calculative with their baking, and not so chaotic and carefree as the witches were.
It's still a bit of a mystery, even to me, how Earthbread came about. While the Wizards try to keep everything down in the archives, witches didn't keep as much precise history texts as they did. It's why I was tasked with keeping you the Witch's Archives; we need to protect all the information we have about them. But, right now, a big theory is that the witches somehow made another realm, which is how Earthbread came to be. It's why there are different stars for you cookies, and why we witches have trouble accessing it (we do have a house there, and there's the whole City of Wizards, but those are just our settlements for when we ever go there). As of now, the witches and wizards are unable to replicate the spell.
But, that's just a theory (A COOKIE THEORY). But, that doesn't stop the fact that Earthbread was made as a safehaven, made by the witches who protect cookies as a way to keep them away from the witches who eat cookies. After all, it's harder to reach something once it's in another realm. But, the witches who eat the cookies found a way. One witch stays in the Witch's House in Earthbread, baking cookies and eating them. Same with the Witch's Castle, but that's not connected to Earthbread (//I think. Correct me if I'm wrong)
This is coming from a witch who once baked cookies. (I've never eaten cookies that were alive; only the dead ones. There was an accident one time where I accidently bit ones head off, but we are NOT talking about that) I don't know why the witches give lifepowder to something, only to eat it. Maybe it's the thrill of the chase? Idk. Seems a bit sadistic to me 🤷♂️

CRW
I have forgotten how to feel anything but this lie.
I feel so cold.
I will build these walls higher and higher,
Make them from diamonds,
Impenetrable.
Worship the Goddess I have become
(unfettered by human emotions)
From below my high tower.
I consume the lands, the seas, the sky,
Longing for a taste of some kind of wonderful,
A forgotten flavor I try to find in a memory.
The views out my window are of what could never have been -
I fear that they are as bright as the glass they stained, blinding, binding, reminding,
I wash my hands, but my fingers wrinkle in the water, pruned, gnarled without thorns,
The dye is cast, no amount of lather will ever get them less crimson.
You crawl the halls when the clock screams for ghosts, haunting me, emptying me until I am a pit of dread.
At dawn my throat swells, I cannot sing - for your skeleton hands choked me in the night.

Nothing can keep me away from you too long.
Oh, Chet! I’m excited, aren’t you excited? It feels like the long winter is almost over!
