#3- Lucas Errant: Hiiro Amagi

Honest and family-oriented boys that are attached to their brothers and believe it’s their duty to protect them. Their closest friend is a blond who’s jealous of their potential but they remain oblivious to their envy. They often train and build their muscles. Academically successful. They have a violent/dark side that especially shows when the people they care about are in danger. Their blond friend is scared of it a little.

Mothy is such a genius when it comes to the presentation of his own songs. I have so many problems with him but you gotta admit the man COOKED.

I just found out he released a new album recently and it made me go back to a lot of his works (last time I invested that time into something Evillious related was like 6+ years ago) and I appreciate them a lot more now that I’m older. My favorite thing has to be the unreliability of narrators so you figure out the real story from different songs. This is without the context of the novels of course… I think he pays attention to that detail. He wants the listeners who haven’t read the novels yet to experience his plot twists and enjoy exploring the story as well.

I just realized that in their JP A support, Sylvain calls Ingrid 相棒 “Aibō” (partner; pal; accomplice) which is something usually said for someone who is extremely close to you & share a history with, kinda like calling someone who is not a blood relative your brother or sister. Aibō is a really intimate word for friendship and I love how they admit they’ll be friends forever after this. Found family faerghus 4 is so real…

Not to mention the fact that they can be considered the Red & Green mounted units of FE3H (The Cain and Abel archetype of FE if you’re not aware) which just makes it even sweeter. They’re really each other’s aibō.

About the Faerghus Four names & their friendship

Fire Emblem Three Houses has clear naming patterns for each house (e.g. Golden Deer with Shakespeare’s King Lear) and the Blue Lions childhood friends group in particular pull strongly from French literature. These parallels don’t just function as clever references but also reinforce themes of chivalry, trauma, friendship and disillusionment.

Dimitri is named after Alexandre Dumas, the author of The Three Musketeers and The Count of Monte Cristo. The Three Musketeers is actually about four friends and explores themes of brotherhood, loyalty and chivalry. There are more parallels in the sense of duty strained by ideology and trauma + a romanticized code of knighthood that reality breaks down. The Count of Monte Cristo, on the other hand, is about revenge, obsession and loss of humanity. Both works mirror Dimitri; early on you can see Musketeer-like camaraderie and later the vengeance-driven descent appears.

Felix is named after Victor Hugo, author of Les Misérables, which is a critique of blind idealism and has views of moral struggles and the tension between law and compassion. Felix rejects false chivalry (like Hugo critiques institutions) and struggles between harsh truth vs emotional loyalty. Hugo’s works are often about tearing down illusions of justice and exposing hypocrisy in noble ideals. Felix calls out Faerghus’ toxic knight culture and rejects blind loyalty (despite being quite the hypocrite) he’s essentially Hugo’s critique of romanticism embodied inside a romantic setting.

This takes us to the relationship between the two authors. Dumas and Hugo were friends/rivals in real life and their complicated friendship mirrors that of Felix and Dimitri’s. They had temporary quarrels followed by reconciliations but their friendship became more stable after Napoléon III's political takeover. When Dumas died, Hugo wrote a beautiful and touching letter to Dumas junior. Their relationship can’t really be considered as regular though. Hugo was convinced of his own literary and moral superiority so his feelings for Dumas were a mixture of affection and annoyance. The admiration and friendship Dumas claimed for his illustrious colleague seemed to be more sincere. Anyhow, the two of them share a final resting place in the Panthéon in Paris.

Sylvain is named after Théophile Gautier, a French poet and novelist. He champions aestheticism (art for art’s sake) and had a fascination with beauty and fleeting pleasure + surface over moral structure. Sylvain initially embodies this, especially in his womanizer persona. Hedonistic, flirtatious and emotionally detached, he’s a commentary on superficial attraction vs genuine connection and is a critique of social systems (crests).

Gautier was also friends with Hugo, and together with Dumas were all prominent members of The Club des Hashischins ("Club of the Hashish-Eaters") a Parisian group dedicated to the exploration of drug-induced experiences, notably with hashish. Gautier penned vivid accounts of his hashish experiences in Le Club des Hachichins. His writings provide a detailed portrayal of the club’s sessions.

Now Ingrid is a bit trickier. At first glance, she doesn’t map as cleanly to a French author like the others but there is a likely thematic/literary angle in the surname Galatea which comes from the myth of Galatea. This myth was widely reinterpreted in European (including French) literature and art. The Galatea myth is about idealization, transformation, and devotion to an ideal. Ingrid also fits the romantic chivalric tradition that all three writers engaged with.

The latest baby content reminded me how much I love these characters and the amount of details put into designing them. They can represent a deconstruction of romantic heroism through a 19th-century French literary lens and together they recreate the rise and collapse of chivalric ideals, like what happens when different perspectives of French literature collide inside one fractured kingdom with a bunch of traumatized teenagers.

Fodlan mention! Dietrich has the crest of Lamine but we’ve never seen this Hero’s Relic right? We still don’t know if he’s Mercedes/Jeritza’s ancestor or their descendant. It makes more sense to be the former, otherwise people will start even bigger discourse over FE3H’s endings.

Out of the four protagonists I adore Cai the best, seems like a cute boy. My new son… I’ll go with his route first. Then maybe Alucard (Dietrich) he seems pretty cool.

I’m really scared of causing controversies or whatever but you people know Aladdin is an Arabian story, right? So the movie Aladdin takes place in Arabia? Agrabah is based on Iraq’s Baghdad but they changed the name because of the gulf war?

I keep seeing people saying “actually Aladdin is Indian/South Asian / inspired” etc… yes there were elements in the film. Orientalism is a huge factor in this but that doesn’t mean Agrabah IS actually Indian or South Asian. I’m sorry but the song at the start of the movie is literally called Arabian nights, and Aladdin is an Arabian name, the story of the lamp has always been famous in Arabia… I’m really surprised that people get confused. I know many wish that they were represented and such but I don’t think it was ever meant to be Indian.

And for those who claim the story is actually set in China originally, Arabs in old times referred to China in tales to say it takes place in a strange land far away. Not that it was literally ever Chinese.

Jamil, Kalim and Najma are Arabs. Those are literally Arab names. The Scalding Sands country is Arab and has Arabic words like “Al'āb Nārīya” (Fireworks)… Now to the big problem, I don’t think the prince of the Arab Country™️ is meant to be Indian or South Asian. It’s not illegal to have headcanons, but to claim that he isn’t Arab because the original movie is orientalist doesn’t erase this fact. And I think it’s kinda crazy to make a non-Arab rule an Arab country
