The Cryolator, or as it's called in concept the "Kryolator", was an unused weapon in the Fallout 3 game files. It was designed to be one of the other craftable weapons present in Fallout 3. It was later reimagined and added in to Fallout 4, developed by the Overseer of Vault 111.

I also love the workarounds that most of the quests include, like if you don't have computer skills yet, you can usually rely on your lock picking to get what you need.

But then there are the hidden bits, like taking Dogmeat into the storage cage in the overseer's office in the vault, asking him to find something, then asking him if there is any "good stuff" nearby.

And then he magically retrieves the Cryolator and its ammo for you.

Such a good boy!

Rose returns to Vault 111 with Dogmeat and uses him to get the Cryolator without a lockpicking perk. Then she meets Fred & Angie, who want to shoot their friend Jules after he reveals he's a runaway synth. She also finds a Taboo Tattoos magazine, buys armor from Lucas, removes a suit of power armor from a lake, and takes the test to enter Covenant.
