Scientists Dazai and Chuuya who are academic rivals. Chuuya puts endless hours into his experiments, plans it out in excruciating detail, measures stuff down to the exact mL (or μL depending on the scale), even when it doesn’t matter that much. Dazai however eyeballs it and decides if his cells don’t survive the extra 10 g of salt he adds to their growth media, or the obviously incorrect pH, then fine, they didn't deserve to make it into a published study anyways. 

Dazai’s experiments always work out flawlessly and Chuuya’s always fail.

i know that we, as a fandom, talk alot about how great it would be if the dsmp got turned into a tv show, or a movie, or something, but honestly?? i don’t think it would realistically live up to our expectations. i mean, don’t get me wrong — if netflix announced that they were making a series based off the smp, i would be as ecstatic as anyone. but think about it. it would be created by, directed by, and acted in by people who most likely hadn’t been there to watch it firsthand. it’s not impossible that they had been, but probably not. and while i have no doubt that the people who would create it would be extremely talented, how true could it actually be?? because even if they watched all the vods and every character analysis on youtube, the dsmp wasn’t just the story, it was the culture around it. it was the farart, the animatics, the fic, the twitter threads. it was the fans, blurring the line between fanon and canon, and sometimes stepping over it completely. it was some canon events being completely ignored, while some fanon things were accepted as fact. it wasn’t just plot, it was the countless streams of just messing around. it was the bloopers. it was the wild donos in the middle of an intense scene. it was twitch crashing. it was asking for subs, or primes, and being part of the character. if you weren’t there, how could you ever truly understand it? the sheer scope? i think that if the dsmp was turned into a series, we would get the plot, yeah. but not the feel. never the feel.

i think that if we truly wanted to have a film adaptation, the best (or only, really) way to get the soul of the smp would to have it be a low-budget production made by the fans, posted on youtube. like so much fan content before. bad wigs, newbie actors, a stilted script — a bunch of people just goofing off, having fun, and interacting with the content they love. that would capture the feel.

Happy New Year! We're gonna talk about the past these next few months. Who was Erin during their Sidestep days? Are they still similar to who they were back then or are they practically two different people now? Are there any parts of the old them that they miss?

I’m so sorry, I’ve got such a backlog of these 😭 I stick them in the drafts and then Forget, then when I remember it’s already a month later

So new year, fresh start! And one of my favorite things to yap about: the way Erin irrevocably changed for the worse

Erin during their Sidestep days was still a ball of raw nerves, but it was more in a ‘everything is new and loud and so much’. The biggest difference is, despite the anxiety, they were so excited about everything. Sure they’d sometimes get in over their head, and their shields were usually too brittle to handle it all and it left them with a migraine for days, but damn it, they were alive.

The world was so big, and so much more than the Farm and their handler ever led them to believe. And the closer they got to the Rangers, the more that core of wanting to Live solidified: they could be a hero just because they wanted to be good. They could have friends.

They could have a life.

Then Heartbreak happened, and illusion of that life died along with Sidestep. And any scraps of wants, beliefs, and desires they did truly to cling to was crushed out by their second stay at the Farm.

It wouldn’t be much of a stretch to call current Erin a husk of themself. They were hollowed out, and the only thing keeping them around is a nagging sense of spite. They wont let themself fall for the idea that they can have what humans have, because it’s either a trap, or it’s something they could lose again. And if you asked, they’d say there’s nothing worth missing from their old self. Their past self was an idiot, and got complacent. It would’ve been better if they never came back from Heartbreak.

But deep down? During the really bad nights when they can’t sleep, and they let themself think without all the self loathing? They miss that Erin. They just wish they could’ve done more to protect them.

(And I can’t help but add my favorite before vs after picrew of them <33)

I’ve been screaming internally about a few things the final shape wise, and one of them is that they are REALLY hitting home this campaign that the guardian is an unstoppable force/weapon, esp with Cayde outright going “we can unleash the guardian!” In one of the Exotic quests, and how everyone is so certain that we can handle everything without backup, esp in the last mission.

It’s something that’s really making me wonder how the Guardian is feeling in all of this, and where their mental state is right now. They almost lost Ghost because they pushed forward alone when it was demanded of them, and he was so determined that it would be okay if he died.

Forever silent, forever used. Alone.
