I JUST GOT MY ORRA DOLL! 🥳🥳
In my opinion, her being the "collector" doll makes no sense to me. Her original price was $49.99! Luckily I got her on accident for just $11 😅
She has a rubber bendable tail, hair gel to decorate, a dramatic pink to black color change, and the lack of clothes makes for safer water play.
With the other main dolls, I wouldn't put them in water because I don't want to ruin the fabric. Now you could easily take the clothing off and there's an undergarment painted on for modesty, but overall a simpler design like Orra seems better for play.
When it comes to the main dolls with plastic tails and high detailed fashion pieces, they seem better for display and fall more into the collector category than they would a playable doll.
I think if Mermaze wants to continue a line that targets young girls with better play features, they should use Orras model for future dolls.
Without fabric clothes I can see the price also being cheaper so they are more affordable for doll lovers!
That's just my opinion as I opened them all. Obviously, I love all the Mermaze Mermaidz dolls, but the way MGA has marketed this specific line of dolls is very confusing and not in line with their goals / target audience.
Mermaze Mermaids Winter Waves review
I've decided to review my winter waves dolls together because I have a lot of the same thing to say about all of them.
I got Gwen, Nera, and Crystabella. As a collector I prefer to have each character over trying to get every doll, so I decided not to get Kishiko or Harmonique from this line.
I have them displayed wearing their coats and Nera (center) absolutely has my favorite fur coat and style in general.
The Winter Waves dolls have glitter embedded into their skin plastic and I think that is so fun as it always looks like they just came out of the snow. They each come with a coat and a bag, along with a bunch if mini makeup accessories.
I really like that they came with stands and I hope all other future dolls (fingers crossed) also come with these tall stands to display with. It was super thoughtful that at the base there are three different sized Hooks in case the doll clothing is too thick for a smaller body hook.
Below I have closeups of the faces so you can see the glitter and makeup on each of them.
I do think with the snow globe tails and all the accessories these dolls are much better for play than the first line. They seem much more interactive and easier to interact with. The bottom fins of the tails do still change color, but I think it's best it's not the main feature.
Below are just a few of the accessories (they came with so many and i didnt want it to be too repetitive). I don't have pictured their phones, but each doll came with a 'shellphone' and cups for hot cocoa! (Idk how the physics of that works but it's cute)
The boxes were a lot better. Easier to open but still not too easy. I do like that they changed the design so the tails were enclosed and not sticking out where anyone could touch the doll. For the price and value, it seems best the doll stay enclosed and not open to little kids rubbing the paint off or potentially damaging the doll.
Winter Waves did a lot of things better than the first line, absolutely.
Should I review each Mermaze Mermaidz doll? I have a lot of thoughts and I would love to share this doll line with more people!
