EVAN
Sexuality Headcanon: Bisexual
While I do ship him with Azure all the way, I can’t help but snicker at all the jokes to come up with all of our phone friends, like with Anthony, Joey, Irwin, and even to the point of TRYING to get Gina’s number for the sake of “Get Evan a new girlfriend!” He’s a friendly little kid, and while some of our phone buddies did come on a little, um, strong, I’m sure Evan was both aware of it, and just didn’t want to lose the companionship anyway.
Gender Headcanon: Male
A Random History Lesson: There’s many a strange story that begin with getting sucked into an unfamiliar, fantasy world, but for Evan it really was the moment to change his life forever. At this point in the timeline, Abe was originally scheduled to begin his dex completion journey, and many a researcher were eager to see how that would fair in testing the newly developed PokeDex. After all, if it worked, then that would be quite the breakthrough in documenting information on Wild Pokemon at an alarming rate. But when Abe… “mysteriously disappeared” before he was supposed to start his quest, it threw a lot of questions into the matter. An investigation did go through, but the conclusion was that the kid did have seem to be taking Red’s disappearance harder than most, and he apparently packed up like he planned to be gone for at least a few weeks. It was concluded Abe had simply run away from home to look for his brother. Which really wasn’t entirely false.
A few months later, it was decided they would continue with the project BUT have more than one challenger for the Dex Completion as a safety precaution. Seeing as Blue was already set to become the new Viridian Gym leader, there was a new pair selected for the task. Azure was the one who was initially going to go solo, but with the suggestion of hosting this as a race to boost public interest and to speed up completion (after all, can’t have you getting distracted and wasting all your grant money at the casino), she would need a partner. …. Evan was literally only picked last minute by Oak after he tried to aimlessly wander out of town, and the old man coaxed him to come by the lab for a talk.
Evan honestly didn’t know why he’d been chosen, by either Oak or the Voices. Sure he hadn’t been in Pallet Town for long, and he did like Azure enough to be happy to help her out, but even he thought that it SHOULD have been her. Still, everything was great and fun for the most part, catching Pokemon, winning badges, meeting new people, getting to go places he probably never would have before, and a growing intrigue with the stranger things he observed along the way. After the battle on Nugget Bridge, Azure even commented in a teasing fashion how Evan just seemed to be a magnet for the oddities that now made up his team. He knew she was right, but he wouldn’t tell her of some of the stranger things to come up along the way already. She might have actually worried about him if he had.
The S.S. Anne was nothing new, although it was his first time boarding the ship unaccompanied. He even got to earn his own ticket instead of his parents, well, just his mother now, buying one for him. The story of what happens then is well documented in the Lore at that point. Unfortunately for all, when Olden took it upon itself to reset the Virtual World since it viewed “the game” had been too corrupted to be salvaged, it caused a ripple across the real world as well. And with the Glitches already being able to leak through to create some of the phenomena that Evan had come across, the barrier seemed just sensitive enough that the reset caused the ship and those that survived to have been sucked into the Virtual World when the waves settled. Scattered, confused, frightened, it would only be a matter of time before those like the Rockets, Evan, Azure, Simon, and others would start to find each other in this bizarre mirror to of their world.
A ship I have with said character: He’s with Azure, there’s just really no denying that. There’s been mixed feelings about several others to come up along the long journey, but he wouldn’t give up on Azure for anything. Not even when everyone was trying to convince him she died, he still held out hope for her. It’s sweet and sad really, but seeing as he was right in the end, it all worked out well. Erm… for the most part.
A BROTP I have with said character: Out of his teammates there’s really no denying that he and Tux are like Bros for Life or something because of how well they managed. It’s more than just the fact they started the journey together and somehow never got separated, but they also balance each other out well personality wise, and seem able to talk about things that Evan isn’t really ready to share with most of the others yet. Tux understands that, and will follow him to the end of both worlds if need be to keep his young master safe.
As far as humans go, it’s still Azure. While I do ship them as a couple, they didn’t start off as a couple. It was more like a mild childhood crush, since, as I said, they hadn’t known each other all that long before starting the journey together. Probably only a few months, considering he was living in what used to be Abe’s house, or a few years in what might actually just be a rental house since I’d like to think for all the wealth and crazed followers Red had that his family didn’t stay in Pallet Town and had that as more of a summer getaway home for when hiding from the media and fans. Evan didn’t mind moving into the rumored to be cursed or haunted place, because he honestly found it kind of cool and was curious of the previous owners. -shot- But really, Azure is not just his love, she really is his best friend and I know that might seem like a cop-out because there really was quite a large cast for AC to choose from, but she really is the only person in the world he seems to care about by the end of things. |D;;
A NOTP I have with said character: Honestly, I’m open to all ships if written well. <3
A random headcanon: So I said a few times that Evan only recently moved to Pallet when he got caught up in all this. His family did seem to be pretty well off (given all of the Gentleman lore early on with him and his loyal servant, Tux) but he initially lived in Celadon City. He and his mother moved, however, because even with the temporary peace that Red brought with the disbandment of Team Rocket, they weren’t actually gone. And with those stationed in the Sevii Islands ready to take up the torch in Giovanni’s absence, and with word of Red’s disappearance making it safe, the time to attack had finally come. Evan’s mother grew very worried about their return, and so move to the sleepy little countryside they did.
He and Azure already knew each other through their families. One of the reasons she was such a high candidate for the “Great Kanto Race” was because her family had already done a lot of traveling around the region, and she’d already had a bit of knowledge and experience on the road for taking on such a massive task as this. Evan had never actually been to Pallet Town, usually her family came to see his, but he really always was a magnet for trouble. Azure was more than happy to embarrass him in front of Oak by detailing a bit of his various experiences to back up his potential candidacy.
Neither actually remembers the world before Red though. They were both pretty little during his rise to fame, and while not exactly religious, can you really blame Evan for being just a bit curious when coming across a Helix Fossil of his own? It’s also really no wonder the little pair of punks were more than willing to take on Team Rocket head on (and lose…) when they’d grown up with the stories so overly detailed in their respective home towns. It’s something the pair could connect over, whether it be playfully bemoaning over who had it worse, being in Red’s home town or being where Team Rocket’s base was; and occasionally trying to sneak into the Game Corner to see if they could find the “adult playground” hidden underground, but the security in the place was more than prepared to deal with those curious. Hearing about what happened to Abe though, Evan had to ask Azure about what happened, and honestly she didn’t know any more about the situation than anyone else did.
As much as I like the stories telling how Evan chose Bulbasaur because he knew how much Azure wanted Charmander, I still prefer the idea that he’s had Tux like a pet for quite some time. Never used him in battle, since technically Tux wasn’t his to be using, just one of several Bulba-family mons that helped around the house. But when Evan got ready for this whole journey, the two were close enough that Tux insisted on going with him to keep the young master safe, and said goodbye to his family as well. (And quickly realized that he’s not much for keeping himself safe either, wow wild Pokemon are kind of scary. But don’t worry, he got better as Evan tried not to laugh at him that there’s a reason he’s got so many little scars from mishaps back home.)
Seeing as he’d run into the Glitches, or at least a few minor glitched pokemon, prior to entering the Virtual World, Evan never felt reason to fear these things. They were curious little devils, and while the actual breaks in reality were new, he never really realized on his own that he was in the Virtual World. He did however hold great confusion and suspicions about Johto when he first started his journey, but he never voiced any of these concerns because it was hard to say what was actually logical to worry about, and what was all in his head due to the trauma of the accident. He tried so hard to convince himself after the first week or so that he was merely in denial and would have to accept the truth of the matter eventually. This was his home now, the ship wreck was real, it all only seems to be happening so fast because he had somehow lost two months of his life somewhere in all this, even if he couldn’t wrap his mind around how. He didn’t fight the urge to believe in Azure though. Regardless of anything else the sudden change of lifestyle had thrown upon him, he couldn’t give up on the hope she was just somewhere farther up the coast, or maybe someone rescued her, or any day now they’d receive news that she’d been found, or just… something.
... *coughs* Considering the Kingdom Hearts jokes to come up at first with AR and Xsar, and then the Glitches running around like manifestations of darkness, then Colosseum bringing up the concept that since Shadows are Pokemon that have had their heart stolen sealed due to the Glitches being able to corrupt them after feeding on an individual’s rage or despair or fear (which oddly was also used to explain some of the Glitches Abe ended up facing, such as loss of visuals during Victory Road was that he had gone blind with grief), and the concept just being expanded upon during VC, XD, and RAS (not that it had many Glitches, but the whole Fae = Glitch and then a fearful Nina trying to find her way through the growing darkness being a theme of her run, R and his whole Defeatist persona, and other little things to come up I mean). It kind of makes me wonder then, since the Glitches REALLY started to kick into gear in Johto, if its because they’re somewhat attracted to Evan’s growing fear of the unknown territory, and grief over his friend, and rage against Rockets, and the Glitches don’t actually attack him that often. They seemed to be following him, just appearing at the edge of the map, or like they’re peeking out of the grass like a wild Pokemon, or maybe he might catch the subtle crack in an NPC’s voice, but he brushes them off because he’s got bigger things on his mind at the time.
General Opinion over said character: [Warning, this is going to get very rant worthy very fast] I honestly am madder at myself about this Run more than anything. I kept missing like every time something important happened, and I couldn’t keep up with what was going on, and everything kept happening so fast, and I was just mad to the point of tears. I didn’t WANT to watch at that point since I was no longer in the mood for it, and then MORE important stuff would happen, and there’s really no reason for me to have missed this one. I mean, sure, I still had work, but I was so bitter the majority of the Run because I kept missing EVERYTHING, that I finally just decided to skip the Run altogether and spent all my time catching up on updates because there seemed to be no point in trying to participate at that point.
I guess that’s why it’s pretty obvious that most of my work (with like the exception of that one short fic during the PC massacre) for AC was focusing on the other S2 Hosts and thinking about Abe’s side of the story once we found out he had a journey moving simultaneously with Evan’s journey. I just couldn’t get into Evan’s story, or the game, or get excited about anything after Day 4. I still love all the stories and artwork, but here we are almost 3 months later, and I’m STILL trying to catch up and figure out anything on this kid because AC ended up as such a huge clusterfuck I could only get passed my frustration with everything to actually try to start exploring his possible place in the world in the past month. I’m sorry, buddy, but, just… I WANT TO LOVE YOU BUT I STILL CAN’T DECIDE WHETHER TO FEEL SORRY FOR YOU, BE HAPPY FOR YOU, OR BE PISSED AT YOU >O
…Which I guess is understandable considering his entire character may be different depending on which ending you choose. I’m a little torn between the “He’s become corrupted, when power mad, and tried to kill everyone” route, or the “is actually a cream puff who released everyone so they can go home and rescued the other Hosts from Olden and decided to stay in the Virtual World to play guardian” route. OTL
But really, I’m still sorting out my thoughts and feelings over this kid, so it’s most likely to become some kind of combination of the two in the end knowing my luck. I’ll admit, I’ve warmed up to him quite a bit in the past month. |D;;
that face you make when you become one with an ancient ladybug glitch entity
once again, there’s a gif version of this on my dA here. it’s pretty flashy as usual, but if that’s not a problem then please check it out it’s way better
Alpha didn’t know where he was, but at least it wasn’t in darkness. In fact, the whole area was blindingly light, and felt as unstable as if walking on air itself. He kept staggering, unable to stop shaking, and called for anyone to answer as he wandered aimlessly. He thought back to the meeting on the mountain, the gateway, the old man he’d never met in his life, yet filled him with dread to hear the familiar voice. A shadow of a man who knew him by another name. Was it possible the Corporal had taken someone else after being purged? A stray thought answered him immediately; no it didn’t, because XD001 wouldn’t have known anything about “Çeth” or “Sho.” But, he tried to argue, if the old man was like him, then the Corporeal would be controlling him by feeding off his own bitterness and desires. If that were the case, it might have known them through him. Even if that were the case, he calmed himself, it couldn’t be the same monstrosity that he’d been held under all these years because then it would have targeted him, not Abe… Right?
Alpha paused in his internal debating, as he was struck with the realisation of a few things. First, it didn’t matter what happened considering he should have been more concerned with his current situation. He was alone, and lost, and whether the creature intended to target him or not, he’s the one it dragged off to this endless space. Secondly, and more annoyingly, he wasn’t fully alone. He instinctively placed a hand to his scanner, and manually drew it out to see to see the image of himself, dressed in green with blue hair so dark it was almost black. The reflection stared back at him as if surprised to be seen. The redhead let out a frustrated groan. “Aw, damn it, we’re out of sync again!”
“It also seems we’ve regained the ability to swear.” The counterpart added quietly as he placed his bare hand to his lips. He didn’t mean for it to slip out like that. As Alpha felt his hand drawn into the same pose by his other's action, he warily glanced to his normally metal covered arm. There was no machine to be found this time. Only the blackened, clawed hand of the Shadow. This…. was… bad… Again his thoughts went back to the night before with the others. Everything had happened so fast once the gateway was open, but surely wherever the others had ended up, they still had his Snag Machine.
He could feel counterpart taking over as his panic started to rise. Alpha tried to assure himself, “No, no, no, we’re fine. We don’t need it. I refuse to believe I am so dependant I’d start to relapse as soon as it’s gone!” Despite his insistence, he immediately started to check himself over for any sign of the gun. No more fighting, no more killing, no more “jumps,” no more-!
B̹᷆͆e̫̠͟t͔̦̐o̗̬͡s̙͕͇…
If he hadn’t been panicking before, he certainly was now as the redhead felt his blood run cold. A whimper caught in his throat as he closed his eyes and hoped it was all in his head. It came as a whisper, a hiss of static, a soft musical calling with an air of sweetness, and a sleepless and exhausted sigh. He didn’t want to look, didn’t want to hear, but the gentle crooning of that name came again which caused his heart to sink. He opened his eyes to look, but no one was there. “What do you want?!”

“Well forget it!” Even as a part him screamed how bad an idea it was to taunt such a force that was able to rip holes into reality, Alpha’s blood boiled as his anger won out. “I refuse to be anyone’s weapon ever again! There was little point in arguing how the Shadow, no, the “Glitch” as Abe had called them, still lingered within him. He tried to hope that maybe it was just something about the realm here that brought it out of him. As he tried to focus on the scanner, he could see his red haired reflection dressed in yellow, glaring at him in disappointment, as the deep blue bangs fell into his face. The switch had been done.

“MY NAME IS ALPHA BETOS AVICI!” As much as it hurt to say “Betos” really did have anything to do with him and not XD001, to say it out loud seemed to resonate with something within him. Something in his heart that had been fading in and out as if on the tides of memories. He tried to think of his time with the others, how he had wept to apologize for Betos’ misdoings, how he raged at Baba for how she had wronged him, but it wasn’thim so much as the name he demanded she remember. An L… an M…? … A J. The J certainly didn’t belong to him, but it started to stir up other memories that hovered in and out of his shadowed mind. Lu, he concluded, the J was really a G. He started to look around the space in slight fear of himself. Images of a ship and a vast desert came to mind. And while a part of him whispered to put it out of mind, that it wasn’t his doing, he couldn’t help but sink down with weight of regret. “My name… doesn’t matter. I cannot help you….”

Saying how the others didn’t trust him, well, he already expected that. It did give him some slight hope to think if they even warranted mentioning, they were still alive. But where could he go? The dark haired boy tried to shove the idea from his mind that he could, and should, try to outsmart this thing. But if he played his cards right, he argued, it would at least allow him to leave the strange plane he was being held in, and he could make his escape from there. He placed his hands to his head as he let out a childish whine, sinking down to the floor in pain as the two sides were fighting for which course of action to take. One thing was clear. “I just want to go home…” He gazed up in terror as he felt the overwhelming presence sinking in. Cold, heavy, and the world around him started to grow dark. What had he agreed to? He never asked anything of it, but the voice now came in his ears like static.

A/N: Sometimes I like to make my own glitches. .... And sometimes I just really need to abuse a generator (and myself apparently). Olden doesn’t really do well with being told no.
This is probably really confusing to anyone who doesn’t know about my XD fic, but basically Alpha came about when a “glitch” caused Michael to pick up a straggler when trying to summon the Voices. I think by now we all know who. Poor kid though, that Run was so broken.
