so this book i bought for $50 in 2006 is now worth $200
it's a book about ghosts and the paranormal from around 1850
(mines in better shape)
but the reason i got it isn't even just because it was an occult book (my special interest at the time). no i got it because of this
see those markings? my 11 year old cryptography (another special interest) obsessed brain i instantly recognized that as pigpen code. i didn't know it by heart so i went home from the antique book shop, got all of my birthday money i ever had and bought it so i could decode it.
here's the pig pen code.
so upon decoding it i was heartbroken to learn that it was gibberish:

The Grooviest Random Number Generator Ever
Cloudflare is one of those Internet companies you use all the time, but don’t usually know it. Big websites you visit use Cloudflare to shore up their defenses against denial of service attacks. The company needed some truly random numbers for its security solutions, so it turned to some groovy old tech: lava lamps. In their office is a wall of 100 lava lamps monitored by cameras. The reaction of the lamps is unpredictable, and this allows them to generate really random numbers. [Joshua], a Cloudflare employee, talks about the technical details of the system in a recent blog post. …read more http://pje.fyi/Q8xQDW
There are several really interesting clocks in Berlin.
Jim Sanborn, the sculptor of Kryptos, the puzzle sculpture at CIA headquarters in Langley, Va. Since its installation in 1990, only three of the messages have been decyphered, so Sanborn has been giving clues to help people will the last one -- including the words "BERLIN" and "clock".
