For all parents of tumblr, or anyone who takes care of children, listen.

I know you do your best to teach your kids that the internet can eb scary and unsafe, that some people wanna do things with them that they shouldn't. Keep doing that, warn your kids about online predators, people older than them going after them.

But please dont forget its not just people older than them, teach them that anyone who asks anything sexual of them, anyone who wants them to do something they dpnt want to do, not a large or small age gap. Teach them and keep them safe, listen to them, dont rumage through theyre things, educate them before you feel you need to do that, and never tell them theyre being dramatic.

So today in therapy we we're talking about guilt and shame and all the fun things that come with being a CSA survivor.

And T said something that really hit me. A lot of times we talk about shame in terms like "feeling unclean"

And she pointed out that the biblical useage of the term unclean, is very different from the way we see it today. In the Bible sin made you unclean, but so did other things. Having your period, giving birth, and touching a dead body (which was required for proper burial). None of those things were sinful, and the procedures for becoming "clean" again were actually hygene practices or health practices. They were ways of protecting the israelites and allowing time for them to heal.

Jesus's blood washes us white as snow, it washes away our sins, but also the sins done to us.

This was super helpful to me, because I feel like we always just tell survivors to not feel unclean, and that doesn't do squat. Almost all survivors feel some amount of shame, and it's really comforting to know that God understands that, not that he thinks we should be ashamed, but that he created space in the universe to allow us to heal and become clean again.
