It is a real challenge to record a podcast, even for this personal website.  I just recorded 12 minutes, needed to reduce the size of it for Tumblr, and used an online converter to do that.  Uploaded it to check the design colors, but deleted it because I knew that my content was all over the place, not nearly as focused as I need.

This is just a quick note to continue to get in the habit of posting updates.  Personal updates.  And yet, it is still a production.

There are so many things I need to post about my current experiences at Higher Ground Shelter.  But, I will also need to be careful what I publish, because I am still there.  And, the threats are real!

Today, I did not accomplish as much as I wanted.  But, I am moving forward every day, on a daily routine that moves me forward.  There is a great deal that I am working to accomplish.  And, daily due diligence is most important to me, now a days.

Writing this blog post is one of those accomplishments today.

Updating this blog header is also one of those accomplishments.

Higher Ground Shelter Mpls

Every day it is dealing with chaos, and social sickness from those that stay in the shelter, and those that run it.  Even saying these things puts a target on my back, and sets me up for retaliation. I do not say these things lightly.

For decades now, I have worked to leave others to deal with their own issues.  I do not go looking to get involved, because I have enough on my own plate to work on.  But, when others issues get pointed at me, I do speak up, and do not act like a door mat!  It the shelter system, there are so many that are looking for conflict because they’re out of control, or need relief.  Too often, the shelter is the very set up for conflict.  Especially, Catholic Charities shelters.

Because I pushed myself to get to bed, and stay in bed, I believe I got more rest than usual.  Which is NOT staying very much.  Trying to sleep is the biggest difficulty and those most important at a shelter.  And yet, there is so much unnecessary chaos because staff and management are working against themselves. Main point, I have much more of a sense of getting out of the shelter earlier, to potentially get more done.  But, every day it is work to just deal with the stigma of “homelessness.”

Btw, yesterday, I asked another staff member at Higher Ground to do the security wanding, and told him why.  He agreed that I would not be touched while wanded.  And, I especially emphasized not to touched, bumped, or rubbed between my legs, like what happened 2 days ago.

So often, I am stressed just going into the shelter, because I know I am not going to tolerate “whatever” the staff decides to do.  Besides the fact that there is SO much inconsistency there!  NOT even remotely good when dealing with this population!

I will continue to do what I need to do for myself, and for the CSR Direct Project success!

Gotta go...  heading to the shelter right now...
