it doesn't take long long for him to regret his choice to leave his domains ---- Hades seldom left the UNDERWORLD to walk amongst mortals and, on the rare occasions he did, he always found himself cringing at their behaviour and noise ( they made so much noise ). it wasn't always the same place, and he never used the same face to avoid any possibility of being recognized or tracked. with the rise of the christian god, he and his brothers were left behind; the time of the gods had passed, he had warned Zeus, it is time for the mankind to rule themselves. and so they did ---- they conquered and prospered, unaware of the ancient powers that laid beneath the surface, hidden in the shadows, lost within time.
the last time he had visited earth was CENTURIES ago, things were simple, easier, and there were no cellphones or cars ---- just people and horses, moving on with their lives, in deep search for knowledge and guidance. now, their new god seemed to be forgotten, science and technology taking his place && being worshipped instead. instead of a cross, a bitten apple was these crusader's symbol - warriors of the future who fought their battles in front of computer screens and smartphone keyboards. Hades, however, is quick to adapt and get on the routine (hells, he even gets his own phone for the sake of convenience), the dead have always been puzzling and their souls ---- after getting over the fact that they were, in fact, dead ---- were usually chatty, so much that he supposed he knew more of this world than most humans.
the face he picked was plain and simple, common and forgettable at most, the closest to his actual features yet worlds apart. no marble sculptures or renaissance paintings could ever compare to him or his brothers ---- if any mortal saw a god's real face, they'd probably end up blind, at least that was what Zeus had told him, ages ago. still, he feels her eyes on him before he even spots her, knows her presence before she even reaches his line of sight. humans, as fragile and PATHETIC as they came, were fascinating things and this one was one of the kind. the impression she passed was of an able schemer, a clever actress that prentended to be part of a world where lesser men ruled. the glamour quickly fades && for half a second he considers turning around and not sitting next to her. he shakes his head, a glint of amusement takes over his eyes and he sits next to her at the bar.
‘‘ hm, if i didn't know any better ---- i'd say we've met before, but that can't be, i highly doubt i'd forget such pretty face. ’’ he is courteous, verging on playfulness, but words are wind and his are empty and flying. his beloved remained long gone and no mortal could ever compare to her. that did not stop him from feeling NOSTALGIC, though.
