しばらく行かない間にバナナスパイニーテールイグアナとかいう新しくマスコット的生物が登場していた。クシトゲオイグアナというイグアナの黄色くなるやつがそう呼ばれるらしいです。それを展示するセンス嫌いじゃないです。

There’s a zoo in Japan with one of the most unusual names in the world: the Banana & Aligator Park. (Yes, they actually grow bananas in a greenhouse, and yes, you can eat them at the café.)

Recently, they welcomed a new mascot — the banana spiny-tailed iguana. Apparently, like bananas, they start out greenish-yellow and turn yellow or even black as they grow.

At first I thought, No way something that convenient exists. But yeah. It does.

Ctenosaura pectinata

Ctenosaura translates into comb lizard referring to it's spiny tail, while pectinata also means comb or combed.

Family: Iguanidae (Iguanas)

Fun Fact: These iguanas are used as traditional food sources in some Mexican areas, however they are illegal to hunt/kill in their native lands. There is a problem with lack of enforcement in one area, and UNAM in Mexico is looking at farming them like green iguanas as a food source.

Habitat: They are endemic to  dry Forest from central Sinaloa to northern Chiapas in Mexico, but also introduced into southern Texas and Florida in the U.S.

Ecosystem Role: They consume mostly plant material from leaves to fruit (seed dispersing), but they occasionally eat smaller creatures too.
