okay okay okay some thoughts before i go to bed:

i LOVED that ending. i know this is an Unpopular Opinion, but i don’t really ship cardinal and delorme. i think they’re a cute couple and they obviously care about each other very deeply, but i also think the 2 main characters getting together is boring and cliche. i predicted it right from the very first episode and was so fucking relieved to find out they both had significant others (josh can fuck off but i’m still very sad about catherine).

as an ending, it was very in character for both of them. cardinal was never going to drop everything and leave algonquin bay to follow her to toronto, and delorme was never going to pass up on a job opportunity for a man.

the show chose the most fulfilling endings for both characters individually, rather than trying to shoehorn in a romantic ending, and i for one am very grateful for that.

i think the show made it clear that they do love each other and that they would stay in touch and be a big part of each other’s lives.

i STILL have not started cardinal s4 bc i am just,,, extremely anxious about it bc i have a lot of Feelings about book 6 and not all of them are good

when they were releasing the promo material i trawled through everything to see how closely they were following the book, especially with whatever the fuck was going on with delorme (especially the last 20-something pages in her house)

anyway spoilers for book 6 below the cut if u haven’t read it (consider this tho: literally Do Not read it)

the first time i read until the night i really liked it. the second time i read it i liked it a lot less. the third time i got 30 pages in and noped the fuck out.

i really like the story and the stuff with the little blue notebook was very good. crime-wise, it’s probably my second favourite of the whole series (after forty words for sorrow).

my main issue is with delorme’s frankly batshit behaviour (giles blunt, have you ever met a human woman before?)

obviously, the trigger for delorme’s behaviour is being ignored for a new, more junior, male detective when assigning lead detective. she wants to prove herself so she... starts going to sex clubs????? hanging out with a sexual predator??? a literal murderer?????????? mister blunt what the f u c k

and then, to top all of this Male Nonsense off, the Literal Murdering Sexual Predator breaks into her house while she’s in the bath and she confronts him completely naked????????? GILES WHAT! THE! FUCK! 

it’s just so obviously written by a man with no idea how to actual write women and while it shows in all the other books, it really jumps out in until the night. 

anyway i hate it a lot and if the cardinal team make me watch it i will scream.
