Connecticut Field Pumpkin has arranged its seeds so artfully. I wonder if they are enclosed this way because it requires tiny pumpkin invaders to really work hard to get to each pocket of seeds? This is an heirloom variety was traditionally grown in corn fields (as was my crop) and was given to European settlers in New England before 1700. It is now used for autumn decorations as well as cooking. Connecticut Field Pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo) is a classic pumpkin, and is apparently very similar to pre-Columbian squash. I am growing them amongst Sehsapsing Corn, as it is a variety traditionally grown in corn fields.
