“You know, you’re probably one of the strongest people I’ve met.” There’s a glimmer of friendly camaraderie in the doctor’s eyes as she addresses Trina. “Dealing with so many men all the time. Working with them is bad enough, but living with them is... Unthinkable. At least when it comes to work, proving them wrong can be fairly easy.”

A LIFETIME OF LIKING THE TYPE OF WOMEN HE DID MEANT TWO THINGS. the first is that he very rarely would have enough luck to succeed in entering a relationship with one. the second would be that once he did, bringing her home, in his opinion, would not lead to a very warm reception. and so, avoidance comes forth to play it’s part. “ heather can’t come by anytime soon, mom. you can DROP it. ”
cuedcry Working Girl is the movie that inspired me to be...
name a musical more iconic than work hard or die trying girl
i can’t because it is , in fact , the most iconic musical of all time

“I brought brisket.” Turns out, you don’t unlearn this kind of thing even when your own time as a housewife seems like a distant, half-forgotten dream. Especially not when you know exactly how it feels to find out your husband has been unfaithful; even if the exact circumstances differ a little, Midge can still remember standing in their bedroom, Joel packing belongings into her suitcase as he uttered the words that had torched the life she’d planned for herself.
She likes to think, in the years since, that she’s become a pretty good example of a woman who made a better life for herself after divorcing her husband, but she also knows that the way in which she actually achieved that isn’t exactly universally relatable. But still. She feels pretty well-placed to offer Trina whatever she might need right now, all things considered.
“And I brought wine.”
❝ we’ve got to get out of this place , i can’t stand it anymore . . . ❞

❝ are you sure you’re alright? ❞ ella hadn’t meant to walk in so suddenly, but the sound had worried her. head tilts to the side, trying her best not to stare and make trina uncomfortable. ❝ it just. . . sounded like you were crying. i wanted to make sure you weren’t hurt. ❞

❛ wonder what DOES make a good relationship. you know ? ❜ annie shrugs; she is thinking out loud, really -- something she often does without realizing. she’s been raised with manners, though, and so she offers a pressed smile to the other, meeting her eyes, pulling herself out of her daydream. inviting her conversational partner back. ❛ don’t think i’ve met one person lately that said their marriage didn’t totally suck. ❜ except for my parents, annie thinks with indifference, and they’re certainly not raving about it.
