Orville Botwright wasn't even supposed to be in that day. If the other human resources worker hadn't called in sick, he wouldn't have had to cover her shift, and thus he would've been lounging comfortably at home when the explosion happened. Six months afterward he awoke to find his body completely altered, more machine than man. That wouldn't be so bad on its own, if it weren't for the fact that it cost him any semblance of being able to properly enjoy the new lease on life he was given. Still, he tries his best to make the most out of what little he's got left...and getting an excuse to indulge in some of his more unhinged desires at the behest of his employer helps stave off the existential crisis at times.
When an explosion nearly destroyed Robotnik Industries' second facility, it was considered a miracle that nearly everyone inside had been swiftly evacuated. But head custodian Cullen Botwright knew there was one missing from the crowd of confused and scared employees, and not even the beefiest of the facility's security guards could prevent him from reentering the danger zone to find his younger brother. Unfortunately this led to them both being trapped and severely injured, and when there was even the slightest sign of rescue it was all he could do to beg for his brother's life to be saved. Salvation was granted to them both in the form of cybernetic replacements to the parts of their bodies that had been too damaged for normal medical care to restore, and while Cullen thinks it's the coolest thing in the world, he can't help but feel like he made a terrible mistake. What matters most to him now is that they're both alive, and being promoted from glorified janitor to one of three top lackeys to the company's sinister CEO is just an added bonus!
Oooookay so some-one has absolutely binged the entirety of Sonic Boom the show at this point and I gotta say, I thought these guys were funny enough when I watched Chugga's playthrough of Sonic Colors but holy shit are they great in Boom. Like yeah, it helps that they're comic relief characters in an already heavily comedic series, but they just have some of the best lines. So I got endeared to the lil guys c: And then I turned them into cyborgs, one of whom actively wishes he'd died instead! c: Yaaaaay giving the silly little guys depressioooonnn and existential guiiiiilt c: ...if it makes you feel any better, I do end up giving Orville a healthy outlet for his Everything. Though i'unno how anyone else feels about that outlet being kpop of all things. Look, I've also been obsessed with KPDH lately, I am channelliiiiiing thiiiiiis >:3c
Aaaanyway, these two are the last of the characters I have anything solid to show y'all at the moment, aside from the characters that are largely unchanged from their original selves (mostly the residents of Green Hills from the movies and Agent Stone, with a few others), but I do want to add more at some point! Idk how major they'd be outside of specific plot points, but drawing human versions of non-human characters is fun dammit! (and vice-versa too, when applicable!) I currently have in mind that I wanna add Omega as a somewhat more major character, fitting I mention him here specifically as the backstory I have in mind for him is similar to the bot bros (heck I even alluded to him in the lil bio for Cullen up there), as well as the Chaotix and Babylon Rogues with some more minor appearances from Big and Cream (I've already had a bit with her mom in the story I've been writing to go along with these, albeit with hardly any focus on her other than just being there). If anyone has any other suggestions lemme know, but please keep in mind my Sonic game experience pretty much starts and ends with the Gamecube era with a little dip into Wii (as in likely less than an hour of Unleashed and Riders Zero Gravity, not enough to matter) and I'm not really into the comics so I might not yet be familiar enough with some characters to feel like I'd do them justice ^^;
...god, how did I end up making the comedy relief villain sidekick robots of all characters have such a tragic backstory in this AU? My brain goes places I guess. To make up for the Tragedic Nonsense they're both much more competent than their official counterparts. And by that, I mean they're about as competent as an average person who got turned into a cyborg and subsequently roped into villainy would be, as opposed to a pair of doofuses. ...they're still doofuses of course, they're just doofuses who can now figure out when to lock in. .............also some ship nonsense happens with Orville here, ship nonsense that ended up breaking containment of the AU, iykyk 🔴🦇
