carries his child with him everywhere, even into the war room either rocking the baby to sleep or simply showing the toddler what daddy does all-day
when the child reaches eight years he begins to train them with a sword and shield, wanting to teach them to defend themselves in case anything happens to him
due to his own nightmares, he is often awake to hear his child fussing and will spend hours rocking the baby back to sleep or simply pacing the room with them
you usually find him snoring dead away in the mornings, passed out over the crib his hand cupped around his little “cub” protectively
He is extremely protective, always wanting to know where they are and what they're up to, not to be nosy but just to keep them safe
The Inquisition was scary enough, he’d hate for anything to happen to his child on his watch
While he can be stern there is nothing in the world he wouldn't do for his child
His heart just balloons every time they call him “Papa” “Dada” or “Daddy”
Will take them to his favorite places in Thedas and of course, introduce them to his family
He has a hard time helping do hair but does his best
They have him wrapped around their little finger and you know what? He’s perfectly all right with that
I found a few pages in a notebook while cleaning up yesterday, where I wrote down a bunch of my HC for Cullen... these are some of the better (more amusing) ones.
HC under the cut, so if people just want to appreciate the screenie you can <3
+ Cullen is a terrible liar - I HC this mostly because he has a very expressive face and it’s not in his nature to tell extravagant lies (he leaves that to Varric). So in my mind, it would be hard for someone like that to tell a convincing lie. It’s not that Cullen doesn’t try to tell small lies, often to keep his private life...well private... Sometime he is almost successful. However, they are often easily forgotten and thus he ends up getting caught in a lie.
+ Cullen is a penny pincher - I really love this one, I HC it because he grew up fairly poor, in an impoverished area. He knows what it’s like to stretch a meager amount of money. So when it come time to replace something, I picture Cullen at the type of question high prices and buying anything more than the what would meet their needs. He is the one of the trying reign in Josie’s spending and questioning if the Inquisition is really spending it’s money wisely on fancy uniforms and impressing the Orlesian court... or if Josie is just indulging her own extravagant tastes.
+ Cullen likes to cuddle - This is one of those things that I HC because I would assume that physical contact for Cullen has been kinda rare. I would maybe go as far as before a relationship he is a bit touch starved... I don’t think he had a relationship with anyone in Kirkwall... probably messed around a little bit.. but nothing more than like, just sex. Even that I think was not a common occurrence. So by the time him and the Inkie start a relationship he really is all about being able to hold them, he is particularly found of falling asleep with them in his arms. He is the big spoon... all the way.
+ He does not like getting out of bed in the morning - Sleep is hard enough for Cullen to come by, this is mentioned a couple times in DAI. So I picture him being a bit like myself, once he gets into bed and is asleep. He does not want to get out of it or wake up for as long as humanly possible. He isn’t the type to over sleep on purpose but he is the type to find himself trying to make an excuse not to get out of bed.after laying there awake for 20 mins. It usually takes him that long to convince himself he should get up.
+ Don’t touch his stuff - This is for a couple reasons, one he is the second oldest of four kids. He probably grew up having very little that was HIS. So if he had favorite toy, I see him as the type to have maybe hid it, or tried to hide it, from his siblings. I think this goes on into this time with the Chantry and Templars. It’s a lot of communal living situations. He probably had other people messing with his stuff a lot and he just seems like the type of guy that everything has it place. It only goes in the spot... and if it’s not in his younger years he likely got pretty pissed about it. So I picture him having been pranked one too many times and now he just doesn’t like people messing with his things. Particularly any paperwork. If someone moves one piece, whatever system he has just falls apart and he loses stuff... which pisses him off.
