Balance. Cultural Labor. The most dedicated, hardworking laborers I've met in the cultural sector are those who rarely get the limelight, who play the bit parts, do the production work, who labor behind the scenes, who make things move like clockwork, but also catch it before things go awry. None of us have unions to protect us, to unite us, to ensure both fair treatment from our employers as well as our professional output and development. Hope springs eternal of course, that one day soon enough we will realize the value of real unity -- not the kind that is about patronage and politics -- but about the fundamental issues that we share as cultural workers.
