Happy that I was able to get a physical copy in DVD of one of the many most funny movies of all time which featured seven different women in circa 84. This copy was I believe a remembrance I got from the direction of the late Ishmael Bernal, our national artist in the Philippines for film. Remembered we had a discussion with one of my class and made mentioned of this wonderful movie. I do not just know and not so sure if my students have seen it already. But really the issues it tackles from the past was still the same from what the modern women are facing today. Make. One of many things I realize I want to continue to do, no matter what I end up doing full-time, is to make books. To plan them, and conceptualize them, and allow people the freedom to write what they might, and to edit carefully and kindly, and to get the book designed beautifully, and gather more creative people around its making, and to get it to as many people as possible, without having to fall prey to the unfair practices of big bookstore monopoly. Not easy, but doable, and certainly can be done better. Memory. Tito Ronnie was the best seatmate ever while watching Ishmael Bernal’s “Pabling,” with so many side stories (hindi ako art director, propsman lang), and honesty (takot ako kay Ishma eh. kay Jorge rin), and insight (ang gusto ko kay Ishma, laging buo lahat ng setting, kung nasa kuwarto, kita mo yung buong kuwarto, ipapakita niya yung buong kuwarto), and laughter (may tshirt si Ishma na suot noon, white, nakasulat in blue: PAHIPO).
