Cupcake fail
Hay, it was nearly ten in the evening and I decided I wanted to test my luck with baking, rather than to wait for my friend or for my Ate cousin to visit me for the week (both with uncertainty). What a funny experience! Before I set my hands on the process, I was afraid of the thought na hindi aalsa ang cupcakes, or maubos yung gasul, haha! It scared me so bad that I thought twice again, but I went on anyway. Sabi ko “Nope, ‘di pwedeng magfail basta I follow the process. All will be well.”
I had a youtuber’s recipe for my first try. My friend Raprap was also online to help me out, reminding me to separate the dry and wet ingredient, and to mix them gradually. I was told to preheat for 30 mins on lowfire. My mother was a bit busy that time that she was not online to instruct me.
Unfortunately, my first set of cupcakes took about an hour and a half to cook. I was weary, and I thought maybe may mali sa templa, so I had my friend Raprap help me out. And because we were both clueless as to why the cupcakes took too long, we thought maybe we needed to add more baking powder and baking soda..heck, then and until now, I don’t even know what baking soda does, and what baking powder is for. I also asked for my Ate Cat to help me out online, but her response was a bit late.
My second batch of cupcakes (with modified mixture, dinagdagan ng baking soda at powder haha) took an hour and a half too. My cupcakes went off the oven a bit moist than expected.
Turns out, pag sinabi palang i-preheat, you do not open the oven. Sa sobrang panic ko because I was scared of the oven getting pretty hot (baka sumabog haha), ayun binubuksan-buksan ko, as in super bukas. Also, I was told na preheat should take on a stronger fire, less minutes (15), instead of lowfire and longer minutes. Preheating right is important because apparently, ovens take long enough to really be hot to bake or cook food or cake.
My supposed third batch did not push. Ate suggested that I do not proceed, instead, I reserve the mixture for pancakes.
I was very afraid to try at first. I was more afraid of the results than the fact that I had to do the process on my own. (by the way, my Special Auntie helped me sift the flour, incidental lang, was not planned, I just invited her to help me out when she peeked at me from her door) Naisip ko na baka sobrang masasayang yung ingredients if I fail this one. But it was not as bad as I thought it would feel.
Actually, the first time will stir emotions in us, it will wake some sleeping courage despite a handful of uncertainties. But the first time will make us wiser for the second, the third and the next. I conclude with: The first time will most likely fail, but it will leave you with a lesson or two.
Hopefully, the second time will be cuter!
How do people ice cupcakes perfectly? I always wind up making them look like I just plopped a spoonful of frosting on the top
I was meaning to frost cupcakes with a shaggy flower on top of them, but I accidentally looked at them wrong, and now all I can see is a ton of tiny Marcos in a tupperwear container. Like really, THEY LOOK LIKE MARCO. ILL POST PICTURE PROOF.
Under pressure?
Well, that was a failure.
The cupcakes did not work. At all. I cannot bring them into the office, that is how much fail we're talking about here.
Sigh. There's a bakery around the corner from the office, I'll just pick up some cupcakes there and make my excuses about new recipe fail.
Argh. This sucks.
