I have told autistic people who hate themselves and say they want to be cured, and in reality they don't need to be cured, they need an accepting environment that accommodates their needs; and I noticed that that last part goes over people's heads sometimes, like they fixate on the "autism doesn't need to be cured" and miss the part that even if you don't need to stop being autistic your specific needs, caused by autism, need to be addressed and met in a way that's beneficial for you and those around you
I think I mentioned it before, but I think that's the problem with the autism cure discourse, that many people think "autism doesn't need to be cured" means "autistic people are perfect and nothing needs to be done"; in reality autism can't be cured because it's no a disease, it's a way to be and it causes problems (disables people, if you will) and those problems still need to be addressed, both by creating a more accepting environment for people who are different and by giving autistic people tools to live and thrive in society
