Oooh! Definitely a fic where Rebecca becomes obsessed with Ted’s hands. Kind of like Fleabag and the Priest’s neck 😆

I’d go established relationship. Something happens in the morning that makes Rebecca hyper aware of his hands (maybe he flicks the tea bag into the garbage or something) and how strong/dexterous they are. She keeps staring at his hands throughout the day and at some point Ted becomes aware. He starts messing with her, eyes twinkling because he’s having too much fun with their little game while he ties his shoes for the tenth time that day 🥰

what made me ship it: i don't know if i "ship it" per se or simply know and perceive the truth that they absolutely fucked at least once pre-canon. what evidence do i have, you ask? well:

roy salutes rebecca as the team is walking by her in 1.02; the only other person who says hello is sam, and they do actually fuck

in 1.07 when rebecca salutes roy when keeley's leaving the bar to walk home with him, there's a familiarity to it... the "go get her" is rebecca's blessing, obviously, but there's an extra layer imo that's like "treat her well like you did for me"

in 2.01, roy gets Big Mad that rebecca would deign to introduce him to someone as insufferable as john wingsnight. now, we barely saw them interact in season 1, and they wouldn't have had a lot of time to bond between seasons 1 and 2 because roy was deeply depressed about his forced retirement. why would he care so much about his former club owner's dating life if they didn't have a romantic past?

in 2.10 when roy kisses rebecca on the cheek at her father's funeral they're a little TOO comfortable touching each other. the way she presents her cheek to him? very hot and also totally what you would do with a guy you slept with once and are now friendly with

and in non-canon evidence, i just think they're likely to have *some* history with each other because they've known each other the longest. roy would have seen rebecca during the worst of her marriage to rupert and she would've watched as he got angrier and slower and lonelier and they could have absolutely been there for each other during those lost years.

favorite things about the ship: i just think they're very well-matched energetically, slightly more balanced counterparts to ted and keeley's occasional mania. they both know football inside and out from different perspectives but the game matters a lot to both of them. and their not-canon-but-very-likely emotional history is very important to me

unpopular opinion: i don't know how unpopular this actually is but some of my shipping is absolutely influenced by brett and hannah's vibes in interviews. the way they're always flirting with each other? maybe it's friendly but they sure mean everything they say. the way they signed off brett's podcast with "i love you"? the way brett and hannah went to the beach after they won their emmys and watched the sunset in silence? all things i'm using here, tysm

I answered this one already, BUT I really don't have a favorite, favorite. So here is a "second" favorite. I went back to my first fic and found my first favorite line for TL: “Good morning, Mr. Welton. Your breakfast, courtesy of the hotel.”

Rebecca nearly snorts tea out her nose. Ted isn’t faring much better.

“Ah, okay, no see that’s not . . . I mean to say, I’m not. . . ,” he stammers. “You know what? I’ll take the compliment.”

5) most popular fic this year

By all metrics (hits, comments, kudos) it's our way to fall but I think that is likely only because it is my only multi-chapter fic. My most popular one-shot (by kudos) is five, four, three, two, one.

13) favorite writing song/artist/album of this year

My most listened to for writing reasons has to be The Chicks' Gaslighter since Sleep at Night was the literal inspiration/prompt for one of my fics and it is the Rebecca Welton album for me. Also a lot of songs actually featured on the show (shoutout to whoever puts those lists together on spotify) and my own Sad Ted playlist.

24) favorite fic your read this year

I genuinely don't think I can answer this because I have read an insane amount of wildly good fic this year and I love so so many different ones for different reasons that it would be impossible to pick just one. There is an abundance of talented authors writing for Ted Lasso, which is more or less the only show I read fic for this year. But in an effort to not completely avoid answering, the fic that sent me off the deep end in the first place was ready to win by cereal.

I am constantly having people nod in response to things and constantly trying to limit the number of times I say that they nod. So all forms of that verb. Also in scanning through fics to answer these, I use the phrase "for a moment" waaaay too often.
