I don't think it’s going well, tbh.

Prompt #19 - Taken
Ciel had already been in Tuliyollal for a few days when her purse went missing in Bayside Bevy. Fortunately, she saw who took it as she had been reaching for it at the very moment a small, scaled hand drifted close to her side. The last thing she wanted to do was cause a fuss for the child... she didn't know how people around her might react to her giving chase. No doubt she had been targeted as an obvious foreigner, there weren't many here who shared her features or her style of dress. That was her mistake, and she wasn't about to blame the pickpocket for it. She followed calmly between and around stalls, walking in a parallel row to try and avoid spooking the young one into a run, or into hiding. It wasn't until he turned into a secluded spot around the side of a hut that she approached, lowering herself to her knees in such a spot that he couldn't easily run past her to get away. "Hello there, little one," she greeted with a soft smile. "Are you alright?" He was a Mamool Ja child of the Hoobigo people, brown-scaled and with a barely developed crest on his head. She knew very little of how their kind grew and aged and could only guess that he must have been into his eighth or ninth summer. He flinched and spun about with the purse still clutched, and now open in his hands. He let out a whimper and frantically looked around for a way out. "'Tis alright," she assured, "I'm not going to hurt you... what is your name?" "H-Hokol Ja, ma'am..." She repeated his name with a warm smile on her lips, "Hokol Ja. That sounds like the name of brave lad, a future proud warrior. My name is Ciel." He dipped his head but his eyes drifted downward. There was no pride on his face, nor in his posture. But he couldn't bring himself to apologize for not knowing what else to do. "Say, I have an idea. I bet you know this city very well, don't you?" she asked, and Hokol Ja nodded again. "Well, I'm new here and still learning my way around. If you'd like to show me around I'll pay you for your time and effort. How does that sound?" The boy's mouth dropped open. His head came up and his eyes finally made contact with hers. "You would do this? For me? After I took this from you?" Ciel answered him with a gentle nod, "I'm sure you had a reason... most people don't do something like that for sport. May I have it back?" Hokol Ja slowly lifted the purse into her open palm. He fully expected her to walk away right them but, instead, the woman took out some coins to hand back to him, much to his wide-eyed surprise. "Consider it a down payment for your trouble, and a promise that I'm good on my word," she offered, then she stood and dusted off her knees. She had to trust that he wouldn't simply run off if there was a possibility of more. "Thank you, ma'am," he stammered. "Mama and my sister are hungry. We don't have much so..." Ah. That was reason enough. She supposed that even in a city as vast and prosperous as Tuliyollal, there would always be people who struggled to thrive. "Then I'll make sure you have what you need," Ciel promised. "And just to let you in on a little secret, there will be more people like me coming soon. They'll need a capable guide, too, Hokol Ja, and they'll be looking for the best. Learn from this moment, and your family won't be hungry for very much longer." The boy blinked and worked to absorb her advice, and he smiled for the first time. "That sounds like a great idea, ma'am. I think I can do that!" His agreement left her with a sense of relief. Perhaps she needn't worry for his future, or that of his family. "Then when you're ready, Master Tour Guide Hokol Ja, lead the way!"
