yes hello, for the writer's ask - there are MANY things but the moment that kicked me right in the stomach and made me all "OH HELL" about your writing was the borden house smut. adam going out of his way to try and *get* the kink, do a special thing for ronan was a great combo of sweet and sexy and awkward. but then the Big One - ronan's first sub experience they really weren't ready for felt so authentic and urgent and raw :' and adam reading him just then?? leaning into it? amazing

Hi! Ah that Borden House scene (and you immortalised it in your gorgeous ART!) was me dipping my toes into the whole writing kink for Pynch (and wondering at the time ‘will I get Lynched?’ LOL), so I’m so glad that resonated with you. 

You have NO idea how much I went over that whole set-up for months. To ... tip them over into proper kink believably, from just mucking about with Latin lists of fantasies. Starting with Adam sweetly trying to do something romantic and sexy for Ronan for their uncelebrated-first-Valentine’s-day (anyone who spends more on flower delivery than the actual flowers is a fucking romantic sap, no arguments).

That moment when Adam gets that Ronan needs permission is one of my fave IOP moments and gave me goose bumps when I wrote it (if I do say so myself - but it’s actually about Adam, you know?.  Cos it wouldn’t have worked believably with anyone less of a genius and less of a natural Dom than our man Parrish).

After all that silent deliberation, where you can just hear the wheels in his head turning. 

That one word. 

No. 

That command. 

Phew!

Kink exploration is surprisingly fun to write, I have to say, esp for these two. And Ronan getting (mild) sub-drop, the very first time, just like Adam and his (bad) Dom-drop? I wanted that parallel. That they’re fucking around with stuff thinking it’s all a lark, with no idea how intense it can get. 

So, yaay! Thanks so much for this brilliant message. It’s made me feel heaps better and took me right out of myself. I love our discussions! <3

i sort of have that? are we talking about.. uneven batches of something packaged where smth is off and you can’t trust the brand to not fuck up anymore? oranges also do that to me :/ ALSO store bought gnocchi, but that’s my fault, i should know better (but home made is so much worrrrk)

not even that, but just like. like, you eat oranges all the time, for example, and they always taste good and some are better than others, but they’re oranges, so you still love them even when they’re not great. and then one day you eat an orange and suddenly it’s not an orange, it’s just an orange, and it tastes wrong and no longer makes you happy to eat? and now all oranges will taste like that for a while, and you forget you like oranges, and then ten years later you’re like, oh, man, i used to LOVE oranges, and then they’re oranges again?

i feel both that i am explaining this poorly and also that maybe this is not a thing that other people experience.

These were such interesting questions! Thank you! 2. Is there a trope you’ve yet to try your hand at, but really want to? Hmmm. I actually think the Forced Marriage Enemies to Lovers trope I started with The Greywaren and Magician is one I really want to write. To draw out and build that UST unbearably, without it tipping over into relief (until the very end)? Good fun *evil smile*. 8. Share a snippet from one of your favorite dialogue scenes you’ve written and explain why you’re proud of it. "It's not just about the sex, moron," Ronan rolled his eyes at him as Adam walked around the breakfast bar.

"I know," Adam said, "But admit it; you just like being a dramatic gay velociraptor going around biting people's heads off, sometimes," he wrapped his arms around Ronan’s waist, smiling fondly.

"Fuck you, Parrish," Ronan grinned, alive and healthy and happy. 

Adam closed his eyes for a heartbeat.

"I think I'm all fucked out, actually," he laughed softly against the marks his teeth had left on Ronan's shoulder. Then, he covered Ronan's mouth with his.

They kissed in perfect contentment, in Declan's perfect white kitchen, lit by the genteel glow of the designer pendant lamp.

‘It’s not just about the sex’ could be the tag line for In One Piece. 

This moment has humour (I’m very proud of the ‘dramatic gay velociraptor’ bit) it has intimacy and understanding and communication, it's about loving in the face of mortality, it references family and wild sex LOL. 

All the things IOP is about, according to me. 

18. Do you use any tools, like worksheets or outlines? I have a rough whole fic outline, a bulleted chapter by chapter outline, and a random scene collection that I keep adding to - all in Google Docs. Then a Doc for each chapter, with all the beats I want to hit listed right at the top.

Hi! Thanks so much for your Ask. I’m having so much fun answering all these questions!

2. Which scene of In One Piece was your favorite to write?

There are many, but a main one is the scene in Chapter 3 where Ronan explains what he meant by the Forsan line. That's the … fulcrum of my plot, in a way. 

And it’s all happening in the middle of a fight and tensions are running high. Ronan is freaked out that Adam is mad at him and Adam is a bit put-off by some of the things he’s said. And then Boom! this shockingly intimate and explicit confession (I assume it was shocking? I would really like to know if anyone had figured out where I was going with the Forsan bit. Drop me a line if you did!)

And you know that Ronan would have DIED rather than say all that out loud, especially so early in their relationship. The actual threat of losing Adam would be one of the few things that would've got Ronan to spill the beans.

And then Boom! everything changes again. It just turns on a dime. 

Because, Adam … accepts it. Understands that this is Ronan’s need for extreme sensation, even if it’s so far from how he sees the world. Because he’s a fricking genius, and his brain works at the speed of light and he gets Ronan. Just like Ronan gets him.

That was super satisfying to write, how these boys can just 1000% be themselves with each other. 

10. What is something readers may not know?

I replied here, but there’s always more :) 

The fic was supposed to start with Adam and Ronan’s first time going ‘all the way’ on New Year’s Day, at St. Agnes. I’d drafted it out and everything. But finally decided it was unnecessary and ended up starting where the action began - the demon nightmare and Adam’s breakdown.

sweet pickles???? what???? i wonder if this is a regional thing here because something’s itching my brain but… i don’t think i’ve ever seen this

ok so. turns out we do differentiate between salt and vinegar! and i--knew that they were different kinds of pickle, but hadn’t quite put the why to it. sour/half sour pickles are done in a salt brine. kosher/dill are a vinegar brine. sweet/bread-and-butter are done in vinegar + sugar or corn syrup and are d i s g u s t i n g and should never be eaten, literally ever, by anyone.
