”bear was the victim!!” “i feel so bad for bear!!!”

“ i have zero media literacy and didnt pay attention to the movie“
do i think sarah was a weirdo? yes😭 i get that in her mind nikki "stole" bear from her, but revenge in this context is so stupid. to any outsider's perspective, nikki is clearly going through something mentally. she literally watched her freak out at the party.
yet she still decided to homewreck their relationship. also her saying nikki was the one "taking advantage" of bear was so strange.
i still think bear's the worst character in this movie, but that entire friend group was filled with weirdos (except my girl nikki </3)
The fact there still people who still think Bear is victim over what he did using that one wish willow while they see Nikki as the “villain” are literally the people the people who would give nice guys grace for no reason over their shitty actions while the latter is vilified by all means cause of the fault of a man. This gets a lot darker when you overthink this one trust me knowing most rather give grace to the man than to the victim who they rather see as the typical villain of the story in horror than anything.
pretty interested by bears last fight with nikki. its not really mattered so far to him that shes turned into a total monster. he can still possess her shell, own her as an thing, as the object of his desire. but thats not enough in their last fight. her behavior, her weirdness—its obstructing. it conflicts with the version of her he wants to have and thus he tells her its not enough to look like nikki or to even be nikki. she needs to behave like his nikki. to think and to speak and embody her. and she can’t. not even with a wish.
and that makes him feel fucking crazy. that is what pushes him over.

this was actually such a devastating watch for me. as an sa survivor this was an uncomfortable watch, but the film did such a great job depicting how men view women as objects to fulfill their needs.
the film does a great job with the death of bear's cat sandy, showing that he takes no responsibility for the things that he deems "important" to his life. bear is shown to be extremely irresponsible as a cat owner, not meeting sandy's actual needs, seeming more like someone who just wanted a cat while lacking the actual emotional connection and responsibility to properly love and care for one. ultimately leading to sandy's death due to his irresponsibility.
bear thinks of nikki the same way he does sandy. he "loves" her and wants to be with her, but does not see her as an actual person with thoughts, emotions, and goals in life, and lacks the emotional capacity and responsibility to be a good friend to her.
the idea of nikki one day waking up to having no control over her own body and actions is heartbreaking. this is such an amazing depiction of victims and just the way men view women. the different ways in which the real nikki tries to convey her presence and lack of autonomy: the "not me" in the polaroid photo and the writing excerpt at the party where she represents her feelings of being forced to fuck someone she sees as her brother by an outside force.
nikki was set up as such a kind, amazing, and engaging person and as the audience we barely get a glimpse of it. we will never truly know nikki like bear never did.
this was such a good movie that i will never be watching again.
