The fifth book of Grayson’s Once Upon a Fairytale Romance Series starts off uniquely from its predecessors. While most of the male main characters were creatures, the main male love interest in this tale is a bear shifter King named Henrick.
Despite his curse preventing him from being able to love anyone, it’s crazy to see how much care he puts in his newly wedded bride, Anna. Therefore, making everything they go through together all the more reason to root for them.
A very happy holidays to my Winter Writeblr Gift Exchange partner @jaimistoryteller ! This is based on their story Shadow’s Sight, which is one of their many WIPs. Sorry if its a little grainy. I don't have a real photo editing program right now so my computer compressed it a bit when I put them all together. I had such a fun time creating this and taking a deeper look into your stories and posts! I am so excited to see more from this story especially.
For your gift I found myself really drawn to these three characters, and the strong relationships they seem to have with one another, so I made aesthetic boards for them based off of what you told us in some of your main posts. I found Tzila’s devotion and loyalty to her sister very relatable. I also liked the idea of Khalon and Caralyn having such an impact on one another when they first meet. Also Khalon’s character and situation intrigues me. I would love to know more about him!

“You are such a dumbass,” you folded your arms.
“You truly say the meanest things,” he looked at you as if you'd really hurt his feelings.
“Ha! Like you're one to talk!” You laughed and folded your arms.
“You,” he stared and said something that made you stare at him blankly.
“…” you eyed him up and down then gave him a ‘the fuck you just say to me?’ look.
“Huh? What's with that look?” He narrowed his eyes as he looked at his girl.
“You're an illiterate,” you huffed.
“You wanna repeat that, brat?” He glared at you, but you were long immune to that stare.
“(N/n)!” Your attention was brought to the toddler, your eyes immediately sparkled, and you took the pink haired baby from his father.
“My little baby!” You hugged him, he giggled and held onto you.
“Tch-” Ryomen looked at the monster that held onto his woman. No one else but him saw this, but Yuji looked at his uncle with a smug look and stuck his tongue out as you and Jin talked.
“Thanks again for taking him for the weekend. I don't know how you do it, he's always so well-behaved when he's with you,”
“It's a gift,” you smiled and shifted to hold the boy on your hip, but he clung to you.
“Give it back,” Sukuna started with a scowl, to which made Yuji start crying.
“Shut up,” you kicked him in the calf as you tried to console the poor kid.
“I'll just leave it to you then…” Jin sweat dropped as the couple dealt with their… whatever it was that they always did. “He already had lunch and I put his baggie on the kitchen counter.”
“It's okay, Yu, uncle's just being a grumpy bear,” you baby-talked Yuji, not really paying attention to what Jin said.
“Damn brat,” Sukuna grumbled as he watched the interaction between you and Yuji. He looked disgusted, but in all honesty that was mostly to hide how much he loved seeing you interact with the baby. Though there was no way in hell he was going to admit out loud, he was jealous of the attention the demon always got from you.
“Would you stop it?” You looked at your boyfriend and puffed your cheeks a bit, which Yuji cupped in his chubby little four-year-old hands.
“What?” Sukuna glared at your and his nephew.
“Leave my baby alone,” you said and held Yuji close to you.
“He's not your baby,” Sukuna looked a bit disgusted, his jealousy boiling.
“Yes he is,” you hugged Yuji close.
“He's not even your nephew,” the words left Sukuna’s mouth before his brain could stop it… and he immediately regretted it.
“He's not?” You looked at him with glassy eyes, he sighed heavily and walked closer to you.
“He's my brother's brat,” he stated, it was supposed to be an apology, but it was like his brain had taken a vacation.
“I know, but…” you said just above a whisper; you were at a loss for words. “I see…” you gave his nephew to him, but to his dismay as Yuji whined and reached for you. You stepped away and hugged yourself, more hurt than you thought you'd be hearing those words leave Sukuna's lips.
“(Y/n),” he tried to stop you, but you walked away from him and sought refuge in your room. He sighed heavily when he heard the door slam.
Fuck. He looked at his nephew when he started to cry and push away from him.
“Stop it, you damn brat,” he held Yuji at arms length and they both looked at each other with the same amount of disgust. “The hell you looking at me like that for?”
“Want (N/n), not you buttface!” the four-year-old boy snapped at his uncle.
You and me both… he glanced in the direction of the bedrooms.
“Damn punk, who taught you that word?” He snapped as he pinched Yuji's cheek. He knew it wasn't him the boy heard it from, that was too dumb to have come out of his mouth.
“(N/n)!” Yuji beamed from the ‘toddler corner’ playpen when you finally left the room whilst you wiped your eyes. It was clear that you'd cried yourself to sleep and just woke up - the proof in your darker circles and bed hair. The sight only made the usually heartless man feel very very very guilty.
“Babe-” you walked past him and went straight for Yuji.
“(N/n)!” The boy grinned and hugged you tightly, then snuggled into your neck. He gripped your clothes as he silently started to sniffle.
“Shhh, don't cry, Bubba,” you stroked his hair and kissed his head. “You're okay,” you spoke softly with a gentle smile.
“(Y/n),” you glanced at the male over your shoulder.
“What, Sukuna?” Hearing you call him by his last name never failed in making him feel like he was being whipped.
“Baby, can I talk to you for a sec?” Sukuna spoke softer than usual and looked like a kicked puppy.
“No,” you said with a childish ‘hmph’ as you focused on Yuji again.
“Please,” you glanced at him when you heard him use that word.
“Fine,” you sighed heavily and stood up, then set Yuji down so he could continue to watch Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! A show the boy seemed to love. You followed your delinquent boyfriend to the kitchen so Yuji was out of earshot, but still a sidestep away from being seen.
“I didn't mean what I said like that,” he embraced you in his arms, then placed a kiss on the top of your head, very glad that you didn't pull away or shove him off.
“You hurt my feelings,” you grumbled onto his chest.
“I know, babe,” he rubbed your back with his right hand while the other stroked your hair. He rolled his eyes before he spoke again, “I'm… sorry.”
“You are?” You looked up at him with doe eyes.
“Yes, brat,” he kissed the tip of your nose and nuzzled it gently. “I didn't mean to hurt your feelings, I didn't mean it like that.”
“It still hurt me.”
“I know,” he kissed your forehead. “Do you forgive me?”
“Kiss me more,” you playfully puckered your lips, which made him chuckle and shake his head but obliged nonetheless.
“Well?” He raised a brow with a teasing smirk.
“Forgiven,” you smiled.
“He isn't your baby,”
“Hmmm,” you looked at him in annoyance and he held your hips.
“Let me finish,” you didn't trust that smirk.
“Okay…” You responded softly.
“But I'm more than happy to give you one if that's what you want~” he said with a purr, which successfully made you blush.
“Idiot,” you looked away and pushed his face away. “How can you say stuff like that so casually?”
“Cause I only want you,” he kissed your neck softly, “I'm gonna marry you, I only want you to mother my children.”
“Funny how sweet you get while trying to get in my pants,” you huffed a bit, but couldn't help how his words made your heart flutter.
“Sure, but I've never lied,” he said and pulled back to look at you.
“You really wanna marry me and have kids?” You asked softly.
“Who else?” He kissed your eyes. “You're the only one crazy enough to love a monster like me.”
“You're a hothead, but not a monster,” you smiled and cupped his face. “And I wouldn't want you to change a bit.”
“See? Crazy,” he raised a brow, his words made you laugh.
“Crazy about you, sure,” you leaned in and kissed him softly.
“Keep talking, princess,” he mumbled against your lips.
“Am I turning you on?” You smiled a bit.
“What do you think?” He responded as he pulled you flush against his body, making his erection quite noticeable as it pulsed against you.
“Very likely,” you mused.
“Highly likely,” he corrected, then held your thighs and picked you up like you weighed nothing. He kissed you deeply and dominated you. “Say the word baby, and I'll take you right here against the counter.”
“We can't,” you pulled back.
“Why?” He left a trail of kisses down your neck and down to your shoulder.
“Because Yuji is in the other room,”
“Ugh…” he buried his face into your neck. “When's that brat leaving again?”
“He just got here like six hours ago,” you mused.
“You can't turn me on like this and leave me hanging,”
“Have fun with your hand,” you pecked his lips, “just don't make too much noise.”
“I'm calling Toji,” he irked and you snickered a bit.
“Why?”
“Because I'm fucking you in the next 12 hours whether he's here or not,” he said and kissed you deeply. “If you deny, you'll be sorry when I get you naked.”
“Are you threatening me?” You poked his nose. “That's toxic.”
“It's not toxic,” he kissed your neck again, “I was gonna fuck you since our talk before the mutt got here.”
“Stop talking about your nephew like that,”
“Our nephew,” he pecked your lips, chuckling softly when you beamed up at him.
“Our nephew?” You asked.
“Yes,”
“I love you~” you said before you glanced towards the living room.
“What?”
“It's too quiet,” you said and hopped off the counter and walked over to check on Yuji.
“What's he doing?” Sukuna questioned as he walked up behind you. You had a smile on your face as you saw Yuji was asleep, hugging his teddy while the black screened tablet laid where it's supposed to be. Sukuna snaked his arms around his girlfriend and took in the addicting scent of your hair.
“I didn't realize it was nap time already,”
“Let's go have some fun, then~” he smirked against your neck.
“We're not having sex with Yuji asleep out here,”
“I'm calling Toji,” he walked off.
“No you are not,” you stopped him. “We're baby-sitting. Don't give him to Toji just because you're horny,”
“Watch me,” he glared.
“You're so hot when you look at me like that,”
“Keep teasing me and see if you won't be bent over the dining table right now,”
“We'll have fun when we put Yuji to bed for the night,” you said, which seemed to pacify him.
“Fine,” he begrudgingly agreed to your terms and left you be.
However… When you put Yuji to bed later that night, he pounced on you the second you were locked in your shared room.

“Yes, grandma, I'm being careful,” you let out a breath as your grandmother spilled her woes on you again.
“Woman, stop worrying! You're the one who's gonna make her crash!”
“It's fine, I have you on Bluetooth, gramps. I don't have the phone in my hand,”
“Oh, but still,”
“I heard there's gonna be a big storm soon,” your grandmother said, tone full of worry.
“That's tomorrow, gran, I saw the forecast too,” you assured.
“You don't know what could happen, (Y/n). The weather can be unpredictable,”
“Yes, yes, I know,” you smiled, grateful yet a bit overwhelmed by your grandparent's worry about your safety.
“Promise you're being safe,” your grandmother said.
“I promise,” you assured her for what felt like the thousandth time. “I'm driving safely, paying attention to traffic lights and all that. You can relax before you get a heart attack or something.”
“Don't bother telling her that, she ain't gonna listen to a word. As soon as you hang up, she’ll be pacing the floor.”
“And you'll be biting your nails till I call again, gramps,” you mused.
“Exactly,” your grandmother stated with a laugh.
Sukuna was late, on his way to a meeting. He was driving his motorcycle - with his helmet on so he wouldn't be lectured again - on the opposite side of the road from you when someone behind you crashed into your car. The force jolted your car forward and slammed into Sukuna, and he rolled a few feet from his bike. Cars screeched to a stop and people were frantically calling for an ambulance.
“Oh Gods!” You gasped, not because you were rear-ended so hard your trunk was crushed in, but because of the man on the motorcycle that had been sent flying and almost got his head crushed against the street if it wasn't for his helmet. You cut the engine and practically ripped off the seatbelt to get out of the car and rush to the male.
Sukuna's eyes flickered open, his gaze locking onto you, who was rushing towards him. He winced in pain as he tried to sit up, but a sharp ache shot through his right side made him fall back down with a grunt.
“Sir, are you alright?! Are you hurt anywhere?” You asked in panic.
"Ugh… oh yeah, I'm peachy," he muttered, his voice rough as he took off the helmet. It was the wrong time… but fuck was he fine.
He had salmon pink hair, red eyes and a jawline that could slice through steel. He lifted his hand to touch the burn-like mark on the right side of his face, but winced again at the tenderness.
"Not like I just got my bell rung." He looked up at you with red eyes that seemed to bore into yours, a hint of annoyance mixed with a sliver of gratitude for your concern.
"Right, stupid question," you sighed heavily.
That looks like an old wound… you assured yourself before you looked at the drunk male who had hit you… Who was now throwing what could only be described as a tantrum.
"Ugh, some people," you mumbled before you turned your attention back to the pink haired male then took off your jacket. "Try to lay down, it looks like you broke a rib or two, and you most definitely fractured something."
You balled up the jacket and let him lay his head on it. Sukuna's eyes narrowed slightly as he watched you, a small spark of amusement flickering to life in their depths.
"Ah, no need for that," he said, his voice low and husky. He tried to sit up again, but your words echoed in his mind: broke a rib and fractured something. He winced once more and let out a slow breath before he finally relented and laid back down.
“You were saying?” You raised a brow and folded your arms.
"Yeah, whatever." He looked up at you with a hint of mischief dancing in his eyes. "But you know what they say: when life gives you lemons, make lemonade. Or in my case, when life gives you broken ribs, get drunk.”
"If you weren't hurt already, I'd hit you… but I'm glad you have a sense of humour," you smiled a bit and tried to keep him comfortable before you pulled out your phone, dead. You looked at the drunk male as he was taken down by the police, who had gotten onto the scene first.
"Ma'am, are you alright?" You looked at the police woman and nodded.
"I'm fine, but he needs to go to the hospital immediately," you said and subconsciously rested a hand on Sukuna's arm. His gaze followed the police woman as she took down the drunk driver, a low chuckle rumbling in his chest.
"Yeah, I think he's had one too many," he said, his voice tinged with amusement.
He looked back at you as you tried to keep him as comfortable as possible, but his eyes locked onto your hand on his arm and back to your eyes. For a moment, you just stared at each other, the tension between them palpable. Then Sukuna's expression softened slightly, and he reached up to gently cover your hand with his own.
"Thanks for looking out for me, nurse," he said quietly, his red eyes burning with intensity as he gazed up at you.
"Very funny," you retracted your hand, a blushing mess before the ambulance showed up. “Finally…” you let out a breath and looked at the pink haired male. "Guess this is where we part for now," you managed an awkward smile.
Sukuna's gaze lingered on your hand, his eyes held a hint of disappointment as you pulled it away. He let out a slow breath and nodded, his expression turning serious once more.
"Yeah, I guess so," he said quietly, his voice tinged with a hint of regret.
As the ambulance attendants arrived to take him away, Sukuna's eyes flickered back to yours one last time, the intensity in them almost palpable before he was whisked away to receive medical attention. You stood up, jacket in hand, and let out a breath. You watched as police secured the area, locked the drunk driver up… then winced when you saw it.
He's definitely not gonna be happy to see the state of his bike… you thought to herself, feeling kinda bad.
Instead of going home like you hoped, you had to go to the police station and from there, you went to the hospital to check on the male you were quite literally forced to hit with your car. You had been told he was in surgery, so after getting treatment for a concussion you apparently had, you stayed the night at the hospital.
When Sukuna woke up, he felt heavy and disoriented. His eyes fluttered open, his gaze foggy as he struggled to remember what had happened. He was in a hospital room, surrounded by beeping machines and sterile white walls. A faint memory of a car accident and a woman's concerned face flickered in his mind before it faded away again.
He winced when he remembered the sight of his beautiful bike, now mangled. A low, irritated growl rumbled in his chest as he thought about all the work that had gone into customizing it. But then his mind snapped back to you as he closed his eyes, and a hint of a smile played on his lips without him realizing it.
As he laid there, - trying to clear the haze from his head - he became aware of the sound of footsteps. His red eyes snapped open again and focused on the figure sitting beside him - it was you. You stirred a bit and rubbed your eyes before you looked at him.
"Oh, you're awake," you let out a breath of relief. "You scared us a lot," you spoke softly as you walked over to him. "I was worried, so I thought I'd visit," you said, not including the part where you stayed the night to make sure he was alright. The thought of you unintentionally killing a man kept you up all night long.
Sukuna's gaze locked onto yours, his eyes burning with intensity as he took in your worried expression. He felt a strange surge of gratitude towards you, and his chest tightened slightly at the thought of how much you had cared for him while he was unconscious.
"Thanks, nurse," he rasped out, his voice still rough from the injury.
He cleared his throat before speaking again, trying to sound more normal. His pink hair was messy and tangled from lying on the hospital bed, but Sukuna didn't seem to notice much less care.
"Oh," you said and rested his phone on his bed. "Doctor said I shouldn't stress you out… but some of your things were stolen. The police could only get your phone at the time," you rubbed the back of your head as he picked up the phone to check it, but the screen remained black.
“Dead,” he grumbled and tossed it somewhere on the bed before he looked at you. “My bike?”
"I called a mechanic I know, so he's got your motorcycle and helmet. He said he'd get it drivable in three days since he didn't want to mess with it too much.”
Sukuna's eyes narrowed slightly as he took in the information, his mind raced with thoughts of who could have stolen from him. He felt a surge of annoyance at the thought of someone messing with his stuff, but it was tempered by gratitude towards you for taking care of things for him.
His gaze flickered to the phone on the bed before returning to hers, his expression softening ever so slightly. He didn't know what was going on with him… maybe the anesthetic? Yeah, probably, he did feel kinda fucked up and light.
"You didn't have to do that,” he said quietly, his voice tinged with appreciation.
"I kinda did," you said sheepishly. "My car did the damage, so… yeah."
“Fair enough,” Sukuna's eyes crinkled at the corners as he smiled, a small, wry smile.
"How do you feel?" You looked at his bandaged upper body and quickly looked away to stop yourself from staring.
"I feel like I've been hit by a truck, kinda fucked up," he said dryly, his voice laced with humour. He winced slightly as he shifted in the bed, his ribs protesting the movement. But then his gaze locked onto you, again his expression turned serious. "Thanks for asking though," he said quietly, his red eyes burning with intensity as they met hers. Yeah, definitely fucked up on anesthetic.
"What are you gonna do? Do you live far? I can give you a ride when they discharge you," you scratched your head. "They told me you'd be discharged today," you looked around the room. "I honestly think it's shady," you folded your arms and looked at him sympathetically.
Sukuna's eyes narrowed slightly as he considered your offer, his mind racing with thoughts of how to get back on his feet. He was a fighter, and being stuck in the hospital for too long was not an option.
"I live in Tokyo," he said finally, his voice tinged with resignation.
"I see," you bit your lip in thought, wondering how you could help.
“What?” He raised a brow.
“Well, my place isn't far from here. You can stay the night there, I think you had a bag," you looked around and saw the duffel bag on the table in the corner. "Do you have the charger? I could charge the phone for you too.” Sukuna's eyes lit up with gratitude as he nodded, his expression softening ever so slightly.
"Yeah, it should be in the bag," he said quietly, his voice tinged with relief.
He winced again as he thought about how much of a hassle this was going to be, but he felt a spark of hope ignite within him seeing that look in your eyes. Maybe having your help wasn't that bad of an idea after all…
"Great, I'll go tell the nurse you're awake," you said with a smile before you turned and walked to the door, but stopped and looked at him. "I'm (Y/n) (L/n), by the way," you smiled.
"Ryomen Sukuna," he said quietly, his voice low and husky.
“Wish it was under better circumstances, but it’s nice to meet you, Sukuna,” you chuckled before you turned and started to walk again.
Sukuna's eyes followed you as you walked away, and his gaze lingered on the door before he spoke up. He watched as you disappeared from view, feeling a strange sense of calm wash over him. Maybe having (Y/n) around wasn't such a bad idea after all…
She's pretty cute… he thought to himself without much control thanks to the drugs they put him on.
“(Y/n), huh?” he smirked a bit to himself. “Bitch is crazier than I am.”
