A man is cursed by a witch to be a hideous beast, only when he learns to love and that love is reciprocated will the spell break. One night he finds a child in the woods and takes them in. Eventually, the child becomes accustomed to living with him, has made peace with him, and no longer believes the monster will hurt him, and as they are tucked in to bed that night, they say “Goodnight, Dad. I love you.”

And thus the spell is broken.
