he doesn’t know how often he just shows up at their house, the desire to get away from his parents often strong enough to lead him to spend more time at elena’s house than his own. tonight is clearly different, though. it’s the middle of the night, he’s pretty sure she’s only awake because he called her in tears — something he’s never done before. he’s always been careful to make sure no one saw him cry, especially not her, always so aware of his own image. but something has shattered this time - and not just the glass that was thrown into a wall. it’s never gotten to a point where he felt in danger before, he couldn’t get out of there fast enough. the door opens and he’s left just standing there, feeling so much smaller than usual, cheeks stained with tears. his gaze meets hers once before dropping to the ground, anxiety palpable. “sorry i woke you.”
