With the rise of gen-z and the tiktok takeover of our cultural zeitgeist, there are some things that comfort me because they make me feel not-so-old as a 24 year-old and not-yet-completely-irrelevant, while also depressing me because I wonder about the stagnation of culture and ideas.
Example 1: The books that are *still* popular on goodreads.
Maybe goodreads peaked during 2010/11, but nearly a decade later, the books that top the YA lists are books that were released during and also defined my high school years. I’m surprised that Twilight, Hunger Games, the Shadowhunter books, and the Hush Hush books haven’t been dethroned by something newer, younger, and less problematic.
Example 2: The Disney stars that are still relevant and stronger than ever.
These guys are in their late 20s/approaching 30s, have reinvented themselves several times over the years, and are still dominating the entertainment scene. It’s been like what? 8 years since they left disney?
Maybe I’m just completely removed from the fame of current disney stars, but I don’t think any of the younger generation of stars have yet reached the influence of these guys. Please correct me if I’m wrong. Although, we have still yet to see if the the 2010s era of disney stars will have the same iconicity and staying power as the group from Britney Spears’ 1990s Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.
So that’s my list of 2. It’s what my entire adult personality is defined by. In honour of my birth year, here are some up and coming 24/25 year-old talents:
Cheers
