You should surely have to consider the material and firings costs, the time to make it, the percentage of failures and other tangible variables ... but then how to consider the piece’s “intimate value”? To me, the “intimate value” of a piece is the sum of a serie of abstract factors such creative effort, artistic potential, subjective beauty, maker’s given love ... plus decades of training and mistakes. . The above justifies the price gap between a industrial and a crafted piece ... this gap simply values the artisan’s skillful hands, his creative mind and his caring heart! .
