"Hey." Dean breathed over the line. It was a sweet sort of relief, finally getting a connection through. 

"Hi." Cas said and the relief was stark in his voice. "Hi." He repeated. 

"I miss you." Dean said. 

Cas rubbed his forehead. This was embarassing. He was at his desk, grading papers and he felt the tears already forming. "I miss you. I need you." 

"Don't say that." Dean chided gently. He hated it when Cas said that. It implied that if anything happened to Dean while he was deployed, Cas wouldn't survive it either. And Dean needed to know that Cas would. 

"I'll survive but I won't want to." 

"Cas." Dean said. The air was humid and thick and Dean didn't know if he was choking on that or his words. This deployment had been the hardest one yet. 

"You know, this is the last one. After this, I'm home to stay." Dean said. "After this, we won't have to be apart again." 

"I know. Come back to me."

"Each and every time."
