(Rebloggable on my personal blog yeee) but yeah it honestly felt fucking great. Like, I did it as a reflex and after I walked away I did have an "oh shit" moment, but it felt good. And Dre, the person didn't go to pride. As I mentioned in the CO Discord, the pride activities were part of a bigger city-wide event, so there were also a lot of visitors there for non-pride reasons. And some of those people are homophobes and probably big mad that we are there to "ruin" it for them or whatever. But also, the majority of the non-pride visitors were very welcoming and happy to see us. I even heard one person from the crowd say "good job, girl" after I hit the homophobe with my sign.

WIP WEDNESDAY (plus a fic rec!!)

(the way I just spent so much time beating myself into posting and then almost said "who cares" and deleted it. literally screaming at my own brain.)

Oh boy, well as usual, I was not prepared but feel inspired by you all. I've missed a ton of tags lately for lots of wonderful shares and tag games, and I'm so sorry.

After @cutestkilla and I gifted our song to Pati last week (linked at the bottom if you haven't heard it yet!) I started working on another song.

This is a cover of an old favorite, All I Have to do is Dream by The Everly Brothers. I wanted the song on the playlist for my WIP fic, currently known as sad!Baz, but couldn't find a version that felt as helpless, depressing and full of agonizing longing as I needed. 🫠 So...just trying to do it myself.

How do you transform a song, made to showcase gorgeous harmonies, into its most depressing version?? How about slow it down, strip it back and take away the harmonies so it's obvious just how alone you are in this deep pit of despair and longing. (sorry Baz, "it helps to hurt the most")

This is very rough, just literally kinda free styling vocals, (and not hitting notes, messing up Uke fingerings) and seeing what works.

Also I can NOT stop thinking about a particular scene in What's Left, by @cutestkilla while working on this song. (If you've read the fic you know. The hotel bed, waking from dreams. 😭❤️) And right away I was like, screw my playlist this should be a gift for Dre...but Dre is also the person I've been sending messages to non-stop about how to make this song work 🤣 so...not much of a surprise there. Dre, I'm publicly declaring this song will be dedicated to you and that scene. ❤️

Re: the meow. I am not sure what to do yet. All seem alright, except for the option to play it simultaneously with the line, which seems obvious. I'll see what I'll end up picking.

Re: breathing. The combination of these replies and the feedback on the Discord made me conclude that I will only edit them out if I think they're really, really bothersome, but y'all are right that I am indeed just hyperfocused on it. Thanks to someone on the Discord I also noticed they also tend to appear when I try to change my voice for a character. Basically, I need to let go of the idea that they're incredibly bothersome and be selective.

OKAY DRE THE AI THING IS WILD. And I don't know how I would write a shippy fic about it, because I hate everything about it. Basically, my paper is about AI deathbots, which are "re-creation services", aka generative AI that brings people back from the dead by using the deceased person's writing, voice clips and photo and video footage. This way you can have an chatbox where you can chat with the deceased, or even a phone call to talk with the deceased, or even a video call with the deceased.

Yeah.

Basically, imagine I die tomorrow, unexpectedly. Then y'all can put everything I wrote on this blog and my main, plus my papers and assignments, and my fics, and my messages with friends on WhatsApp and whatever into a large language model and that AI will then generate "text responses that I would say" in circumstances. It will mimic my writing style and it will probably not shut the fuck about glee.

And bla, bla, bla, affective scaffolding and grief processing. It can help people. It HAS helped people. Imagine that my sudden death leaves my parents feeling empty. This way they can say goodbye to "me" by chatting with AI-me. BUT there are definitely issues about how a bereaved person can get too reliant on them. What if it prevents my parents from moving on? And there's of course the issue of consent. You now have it in writing: I do not consent to being turned into a deathbot. But many do not give consent. How could they? Especially people who died earlier. Of course my family didn't ask my grandpa for permission when he was dying in 2002. How could we?

And yada yada, the usual data issues when it comes to companies, cause yes, companies are hawking. Microsoft has already been granted a patent for the chatbox and visual recreation of the dead and Amazon is also working on it through AI voice for Alexa. And there are also a bunch of (sketchy) start-ups that are eerily like the NowNext. Sillicone Valley techbros like Braden would gobble this shit up. Digital immortality! But yes, so far these deathbots are paid services. What happens if someone cannot afford to keep the subscription going? Will the deathbot suddenly start advertising Uber Eats using a deceased person's voice and face? Probably. Once profit is part of it, all morality leaves. This AI version of me needs to be profitable, so companies might actually be interested in altering "me" to fit my parents' wishes to encourage them to keep using their services. Is that still a representation of me?

And what happens to the data of the deceased, even if the deathbot ceases to exist? AI is notorious for using data that is obtained under questionable circumstances. My parents move on and decide to terminate my deathbot, but then my data is still in the hands of good ole Jeff Bezos who will use it to further train the deathbot AI. My data will also be blended with other people's data, or data from 3rd parties that were possibly scraped for other purposes. Is it a representation of "me" if it's my data, other dead people's data and, I dunno, scraped data from an article on the invasion of Ukraine from the New York Times or a great Drarry erotic fanfic scraped from AO3?

I realise I just basically summarised my paper in this post BUT I FIND THIS EXTREMELY FASCINATING AND FUCKED UP AND YES, BLACK MIRROR ALREADY DID AN EPISODE ON THIS IN 2013.

I also wanna meet up with the current resident to see what I can buy from them (like the floor) and I wanna tell my current roommates I'm leaving (I bought little cat lucky charms today as a goodbye gift) AAAAAAAAAAAAH

And yes, right in time for summer. I bike around and see people chilling on balconies and I'm like "that's gonna be me". It's a super small balcony, but bro, it is something!!!

@cutestkilla Matt and Agatha would by far be the fucking funniest duo ever, but unfortunately they do not really interact. After all, Matt thinks Agatha is fine with the situation, ya know? BUT MAN, if only they knew of each other's attitude. They're both so fucking done with this Chosen One crap.

@facewithoutheart @cutestkilla I love Matty Chris D. with my whole heart but unfortunately, he's too good at this. He's supposed to be the Most Basic And Bland, Generic Dude Ever and MCD is exactly that. So as a result... I don't know what to write. Because honestly, what is he doing? He's Just Some Guy, who chills with his bestie John Johnson and who loves chess club.

Okay, I gave him some family drama, but that's it.
