365 Year in Review: October 2011
So while August/September were all about just getting things set up, October brought many new things for the 365 Music Project: the purchase of my first piece of vinyl--Jeremy Messersmith's Reluctant Graveyard at the Pioneer & Soldier's Cemetery in Minneapolis which, also happens to be where the album was written as well, a deeper immersion into the local music scene, one of the best concerts of 2011, and a brief reconciliation. October was also the month were I first discovered and introduced two bands I would unknowingly follow closely throughout the remainder of the project: Prissy Clerks and CVS Trio. Oh wait. You guys don't know CVS Trio? Sure you do. I mean, give 'em a listen. Remind you of anyone you know?
That's right. It's my friend Charlie Van Stee--but before any of us knew about VAN STEE. Well, okay, wait. That's a lie. I *kinda sorta* knew about VAN STEE. But I didn't know what they sounded like at this point. You see, Charlie and I started talking over the interwebs one day wherein he mentioned that he had something else in the works, but encouraged me to check out CVS Trio in the meantime. While not everyone thought CVS Trio was fantastic (just kidding, Al), I heard something in Charlie's voice that made me think there was potential here and I encouraged him to keep in touch about this new project. Just like Prissy Clerks, VAN STEE would soon become a band I had a pretty big crush on. And while I spent most of October discovering local bands such as Joey Ryan & The Inks, Jason Roberts, Matt Latterell, and Giravves, in the background, I also experienced the end of a pretty big relationship while unknowingly planting the seeds for another.
