CV Secret Santa 2017 is open!

The collection is OPEN! Go enjoy your gifts (and others')!

Notes:

1. If your gift ignores your DNWs, does not focus on at least one of your requested characters/pairings, or is a placeholder, please contact the mods by emailing [email protected]. If it doesn't do any of those things, please comment on your gift! It's always important to get thanks for things you've created for someone else.

2. If you are still working on treats, don't worry! The CVSS 2017 collection won't close until next year's CVSS starts up, so you can post gifts to it at any time of the year.

3. If you look at the general Castlevania fandom tag, you may notice that all these shiny new fics aren't on the most recent page. That's because AO3 sorts them by the date they were posted, which was before the 18th, for most of the collection. If you want to put your fic back at the top of the fandom tag, go to the "Edit" menu for that fic. In the "Associations" box in the middle of the page, there's a checkbox that says "Set a different publication date." Check it, and set the date to December 25. Bam, instant visibility.

Castlevania Secret Santa + Important Announcement

As the winter months creep ever closer, holiday fanwork exchanges rise from their graves, and Castlevania Secret Santa is no exception.

It's been a big year for Castlevania. The decade-long wait for a screen adaptation of the series came to an end, and the resulting show brought many new fans to this small (but mighty) fandom. Fans of the games and Netflix series alike are welcome and encouraged to sign up and share the love for this classic vampire whipping simulator.

Details, rules, and an exact schedule will all be coming over the next two weeks. In the meantime, however, please take note of one thing:

You will have to have an AO3 account to participate in CV Secret Santa. If you don't have one, add yourself to the signup waiting list ASAP, as signup invitations take up to two weeks to be sent out.

This year, CVSS will be using AO3's built-in exchange framework to make the process run smoother and quicker for both mods and participants. If you've participated in other fanwork exchanges such as Yuletide or Trick or Treat, you know the drill already. If you've never signed up for an AO3-based exchange before, don't worry, explanations will be posted before CVSS opens. But we're not exaggerating when we say you should sign up for AO3 as soon as possible - invitations are slow to be sent out, and we don't want anyone to miss out on the first steps of this exchange because they don't have an account yet.

With that little announcement out of the way, we're delighted to be running this exchange again! Please stay tuned for further details.

Please note that your requests will be visible to everyone, not just your assigned gifter, in the “Requests Summary” tab. Perhaps this spoils half of the “secret” part of a secret santa, but we wanted to be more open this year.

Edit: Please note that if you are breaking the rules in your signup, the mods will contact you via email (and via Tumblr, if we know your blog). If you haven’t fixed the issue by the time signups close, we will delete your signup.

Nominations for CV Secret Santa are open!

Castlevania Secret Santa is officially open for business!

The first step of the exchange, before signups open, is nominations: The process of electing characters and relationships you want to be able to request/offer for this exchange.

The CVSS 2017 tagset is here.

You can nominate up to 10 fandoms and 10 characters/relationships per fandom. Please read this post from start to finish. It explains everything you need to know about how the nomination process works, and how to nominate your characters/ships in the correct format.

We’ve also put up an in-depth FAQ right over here (it’s also posted in our About & How To Participate page here on Tumblr). Please read it as well, especially if you’ve never participated in an AO3-based exchange before!

Once you’ve read the rules, go forth and nominate! We’re looking forward to seeing everyone’s contributions. (And remember, keep an eye on this blog or our Dreamwidth blog for updates, as we will make update posts asking people to fix their nominations if they’ve nominated them in the incorrect format.)

Nominations will close on October 15th at 11:59 PM UTC (helpful countdown!), so don’t wait too long to nominate!

Signups open until the 25th

Originally, signups were scheduled to close on October 24th, at 11:59 PM UTC. To compensate for our rocky opening day, we’re keeping signups open until October 25th, 11:59 PM UTC. (Countdown.)

Less than 3 days until gift reveals!

Gifts uploaded to the CVSS 2017 collection will be revealed no sooner than December 25, 2 PM UTC (countdown here), assuming all last-minute pinch hits have been uploaded in time.

- What should you do while you wait to open your gifts? -

If you have claimed a pinch hit, first of all, thank you! Keep working hard on it.

If the gifts you've uploaded are still unpolished (not spell-checked, contain placeholders, or anything else you want to change), edit them now, before your recipients see them.

If you have nothing else you need to do, consider writing or drawing treats for other participants! Treats are extra gifts created for users that you weren't necessarily assigned to. All participants' requests can be found here, and instructions for uploading treats can be found here.
